National Review

I have several copies of this magazine from the early '90's listing him on the mast head as an editor. Should this not be put in the article? Of course, research is needed to determine exactly how long he had this post, but it is surely part of the record.

Citizenship controversy

Brimelow emigrated from Britain to Canada and spent his later years in the U.S. His wife remained a Canadian citizen until her death. Because of his militant views on the ethnic composition of U.S. citizenry it becomes relevant to include any details about whether he ever adopted U.S. citizenship and if so when.

Why are we calling this book a "best-seller"? Did it appear onthe NYT list? -Willmcw 21:52, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

It was printed in 95 by Random House and reprinted in 96 by HarperCollins with "national bestseller" on the cover along with a NYT quote calling it "the benchmark case against immigration."[1] This Houston Chronicle article refers to it as a best seller, as does this article published in the La Raza Law Journal.--Nectar ^T 23:03, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

SPLC's views

Why is it that a group, the Southern Poverty Law Center here, is the final arbiter of what is or is not a "hate site". "Civil rights" groups of this ilk function by searching for and finding enemies for the left; hence, I am suspicious when I read something as flimsy as their "report" on Mr. Brimelow. VDARE.org certainly challenges "politically correct" perceptions but I haven't read anything that would qualify it as a "hate site". From where I stand, most of the hate speech comes from the left directed at any who dare to challenge their views - now there's true hate speech. And you can find it on any campus today. I agree. I think this designation by the SPLC, a highly controversial organization in its own right, should be removed from the introduction at the very least. Perhaps a section should be added discussing VDare.com in further detail along with the SPLC's views of VDare and VDare's response to the SPLC. Or, perhaps more appropriately, the entire discussion needs to be moved to the VDare Wikipedia article. There's things on VDARE to connect at least some of its writers to a racist mindset; also please do not shake it off as rebellion against "PC"; thats far too often used as a way to ignore the natural anger of the people against something racist and just brush it off. And the left doesn't have hate speech, it has disagreement with what it finds wrong or stupid (should it find anything stupid), and that is political discussion and anger, not hate speech.

Does he make as big a salary from donations as his Leftist critics claim?

I just hit the above hyperlink, and found that neither Brimelow nor his assistant ever said that he made "$300K or around $170K" per year. Considering that he pays his assistant and all expenses out of his $170,000 "salary," it is likely that at the time he was making somewhere between $50,000 and $80,000 per year, whereas the SPLC's Morris Dees was making over $300,000 per year, plus a lavish expense account that was not used for office supplies. So, why don't the lefties at [WP] condemn Dees and his crew for getting rich off of donors?

Note that 'VDARE' lost one-third of its funding last year, so Brimelow is probably making less than $50,000 this year.

The article now has a very long, unsourced list of employers.[2] I don't recall ever seeing a biography with a similar list. This has the feeling of a CV, and WP is not a repository for CVs. If there's no explanation I'll remove it.   Will Beback  talk  05:14, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Because it's there? Perhaps I'm overly enamored of the Infobox, but I'm loathe to discard well sourced facts. Maybe the infobox is long winded overkill that resembles a curriculum vitae. But the educational and employment stories suggest the arc of the man's life that's less evident in the body of the article. He's lived in the UK, Canada, and US; he's been in business; he's been a mainstream writer; he wasn't always just an unpopular proponent of obnoxious views.
