National Review edit

I have several copies of this magazine from the early '90's listing him on the mast head as an editor. Should this not be put in the article? Of course, research is needed to determine exactly how long he had this post, but it is surely part of the record.

Citizenship controversy edit

Brimelow emigrated from Britain to Canada and spent his later years in the U.S. His wife remained a Canadian citizen until her death. Because of his militant views on the ethnic composition of U.S. citizenry it becomes relevant to include any details about whether he ever adopted U.S. citizenship and if so when.

So it is, but keep in mind most people worried about immigration have no worries about Canadians, due to the cultural similarities. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.170.59.139 (talk) 08:34, 3 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Alien Nation edit

  • Brimelow's books include the national best-seller Alien Nation: Common Sense About America's Immigration Disaster,...

Why are we calling this book a "best-seller"? Did it appear onthe NYT list? -Willmcw 21:52, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

It was printed in 95 by Random House and reprinted in 96 by HarperCollins with "national bestseller" on the cover along with a NYT quote calling it "the benchmark case against immigration."[1] This Houston Chronicle article refers to it as a best seller, as does this article published in the La Raza Law Journal.--Nectar T 23:03, 12 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. -Willmcw 10:03, 13 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

What is the correct pronunciation of his name: Brim-e-low or brime-low? Bastie 22:51, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

It has three syllables and sounds like "brim-uh-low".

SPLC's views edit

Why is it that a group, the Southern Poverty Law Center here, is the final arbiter of what is or is not a "hate site". "Civil rights" groups of this ilk function by searching for and finding enemies for the left; hence, I am suspicious when I read something as flimsy as their "report" on Mr. Brimelow. VDARE.org certainly challenges "politically correct" perceptions but I haven't read anything that would qualify it as a "hate site". From where I stand, most of the hate speech comes from the left directed at any who dare to challenge their views - now there's true hate speech. And you can find it on any campus today. When it's your job to find something (enemies in this case), you usually oblige. -March 13, 2007

I agree. I think this designation by the SPLC, a highly controversial organization in its own right, should be removed from the introduction at the very least. Perhaps a section should be added discussing VDare.com in further detail along with the SPLC's views of VDare and VDare's response to the SPLC. Or, perhaps more appropriately, the entire discussion needs to be moved to the VDare Wikipedia article. I'm going to remove the SPLC reference for now and simply replace it with language indicating Brimelow's VDare is "controversial." 24.113.82.222 07:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wow, a couple of anonymous right wing ideologues agree with each other. Not exactly good grounds for editing this article.-- 98.108.222.235 (talk) 22:05, 15 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
I hear you, Brother! Isn't there a rule at [WP], whereby only communists and anarchists get to edit articles about conservatives?74.72.23.106 (talk) 13:16, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

There's things on VDARE to connect at least some of its writers to a racist mindset; also please do not shake it off as rebellion against "PC"; thats far too often used as a way to ignore the natural anger of the people against something racist and just brush it off. And the left doesn't have hate speech, it has disagreement with what it finds wrong or stupid (should it find anything stupid), and that is political discussion and anger, not hate speech.

I think there's a fair section for expanded critique of Brimelow.--66.66.212.182 (talk) 00:41, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Left does not have hate speech? See what Che Guevara had to say about the value of hate (his word). Or read Marx's essay on 'A World Without Jews'. But this is not the place for windy discussions about how the left is really flaw-free, really, but about Brimelow. Lay out a detailed critique of his magazine, properly sourced and referenced. 70.197.6.249 (talk) 07:30, 10 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Does he make as big a salary from donations as his Leftist critics claim? edit

this website http://www.onepeoplesproject.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=40:peter-brimelows-youth-ful-indiscretion&catid=29:antifa-news accuses him of getting over $300K in salary from a donation-supported nonprofit, i.e. in essence betraying the trust of his ideologically committed donors by exorbitant spending on living expenses. I wonder if that is true, false, or maybe true in the past but no longer? 76.24.104.52 (talk) 18:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

yes, sounds like that, see his own comments about this here http://thecoldequations.blogspot.com/2009/05/vdares-defenders-respond.html . It's not clear if his salary is around $300K or around $170K, but still, basically, pretty darn big. 76.24.104.52 (talk) 18:52, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I just hit the above hyperlink, and found that neither Brimelow nor his assistant ever said that he made "$300K or around $170K" per year. Considering that he pays his assistant and all expenses out of his $170,000 "salary," it is likely that at the time he was making somewhere between $50,000 and $80,000 per year, whereas the SPLC's Morris Dees was making over $300,000 per year, plus a lavish expense account that was not used for office supplies. So, why don't the lefties at [WP] condemn Dees and his crew for getting rich off of donors?
Note that 'VDARE' lost one-third of its funding last year, so Brimelow is probably making less than $50,000 this year.

"Peter Brimelow here.

"Just saw this.

"I, of course, certainly do think that what I do for VDARE.COM is worth $378,418 a year (at least). But this what my assistant just emailed (we work Saturdays):

'Peter -

'The amount of $ 378,418 is correct - but it isn't all your salary - here is the breakdown

'Your salary $170,000 a year. (Keep in mind that out of that come my salary! So you actually make a good bit less then that).

'You had taken an advance of $80,000(which is now completely repaid) for the construction of the new office that we are in.

'Because VDare has so far been unsuccessful at obtaining a credit card itself, (hmmm wonder why...) you also put all VDare's expenses on your personal cards and then get reimbursed for it - those expenses make up the rest of this amount and include thing such as:

'*Sending several of our writers the The Writer's Workshop conference in October '*Travel for speeches and debates, etc. '*Webhosting fees '*Office Supplies (including software) '*Utilities for the office (telephone, internet connection etc.) '*Additional office help when needed '*Postage 'etc.

'While on paper it may look like you were paid a large amount - when all of the expenses of the office and factored in - you actually didn’t end up making much at all in 2007.

'And things will look better (worse) when the 2008 990 is posted!

'/s/ Crystal.'" 74.72.23.106 (talk) 13:31, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Employers edit

The article now has a very long, unsourced list of employers.[2] I don't recall ever seeing a biography with a similar list. This has the feeling of a CV, and WP is not a repository for CVs. If there's no explanation I'll remove it.   Will Beback  talk  05:14, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

OK, thanks. But why would we list every employer he ever had? I've never seen a biography with a list like this.   Will Beback  talk  05:52, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Because it's there? Perhaps I'm overly enamored of the Infobox, but I'm loathe to discard well sourced facts. Maybe the infobox is long winded overkill that resembles a curriculum vitae. But the educational and employment stories suggest the arc of the man's life that's less evident in the body of the article. He's lived in the UK, Canada, and US; he's been in business; he's been a mainstream writer; he wasn't always just an unpopular proponent of obnoxious views.

(He isn't now) 12.201.7.201 (talk) 05:22, 3 September 2017 (UTC) And on reflection, I removed Mr Paden's reference; it was not authoritative, but someone's opinion expressed at a social networking site.Reply

Maybe it could be put into prose in the body of the article instead.   Will Beback  talk  22:39, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

RfC edit

BAn RfC: Which descriptor, if any, can be added in front of Southern Poverty Law Center when referenced in other articles? has been posted at the Southern Poverty Law Center talk page. Your participation is welcomed. – MrX 17:11, 22 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Disingenuous RfC: Any descriptor one writes that you guys hate, you send down the memory hole. 2604:2000:9046:800:D903:44F7:B62C:3E5C (talk) 01:09, 5 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Infobox edit

I commented out what (IMO) amounts to excessive intricate detail; pls see diff. I suggest these awards and positions be permanently removed. I also suggest that (nn) spouses be removed from the infobox. Would there be any objections? K.e.coffman (talk) 02:22, 17 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
