Tidal island edit

The definition of tidal island is that it's "connected to the mainland by a natural or man-made causeway that is exposed at low tide and submerged at high tide." The causeway that goes to Pepin Island doesn't look to ever be under water. I have thus removed the 'tidal' bit from the text. Feel free to put it back, but please provide some evidence, i.e. a reference that confirms this to be a tidal island. Schwede66 05:58, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm not fussed about it, to be honest, the only reason I added it (and also the category on Wikimedia) was because Pepin Island is listed in the Tidal island article. Perhaps the land connection had been built up during the work for the cable and when the road was built?
I see where you're coming from with the definition, however, if Pepin Island is not a tidal island, then it wouldn't be an island at all, but rather a peninsula, right? Pseudopanax (talk) 22:40, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see - you merely duplicated what was written elsewhere. I've looked through the history and see that Grutness added the New Zealand tidal islands. I shall invite him to comment here and depending on the outcome, we should get the tidal island article tidied up. I don't know anything about the history of the causeway; all I'm saying is that the causeway doesn't disappear during high tide, and Pepin is thus not a tidal island. Hm. Apologies. Pretty sure I was fooled by a combination of a vague map and the "Island" part of Pepin Island's name. Feel free to remove it from the list at Tidal island - it looks like it's more of a tombolo, similar to Mount Maunganui. Grutness...wha? 07:44, 17 July 2012 (UTC) (PS - hi Schwede66! Things not too bad at the moment...still lurking here occasionally :)Reply
Thanks. I've dealt with Tidal island. Schwede66 06:24, 18 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I also updated List of islands of New Zealand with a note that Pepin Island is a tied island. Grutness, thanks for clarifying, I learned something new :-) Pseudopanax (talk) 23:36, 19 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Area edit

This article gave the area as 518 hectares (5.18 sq km) while this one gave it as 1200 acres (4.86 sq km). Until someone finds the exact size I've written "about 5 sq km" in the article. HenryCrun15 (talk) 00:05, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
