Clarification on Single Promotion in US

The single was released in the US market to promote the compilation album of the same name, so, although it is released to promote Some Great Reward in the UK, "People Are People" is used by Sire to promote two albums - the US-only People Are People, and the studio album Some Great Reward, released only three months later.

To confirm this, check out the lable of the 7" vinyl single released by Sire in 1984. The label indicates that the single is from the Sire album, People Are People. Image is available at http://www.depmod.com/images/b1086_a.jpg Jackbox1971

Einstürzende Neubauten edit

I heard, in an Interview with Blixa Bargeld, that many early Depeche Mode songs actually heavyly use samples from Neubauten songs. I'm pretty sure that he mentioned "Master and Servant" and People are People. Does anyone know more about this?

What CBBC show was this the soundtrack to.i think it was it'll never work but i cant remeber. --Killersepp 19:52, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

See the first section of Everything Counts for the specific explanation surrounding their influence. More specifically, the main Neubauten sample I can think of is during the ending of "The Landscape is Changing", on Construction Time Again, which samples "Merle (Die Elektrik)". There were probably others, just less obvious. John5008 | talk to me 21:36, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
An instrumental section of this song was the theme tune to CBBC's It'll Never Work.boffy_b 01:53, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

the Article Shuffle edit

'Lo. As per naming conventions, I moved this article to People Are People (song) and I was wondering if People Are People should now be a disambiguation page or if it should contain People Are People (album). Seeing as RuPaul and A Perfect Circle have their covers, perhaps a disambig page. --Matharvest 06:22, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm a little iffy on this move, because the album was a North American only compilation, and the band is British (as the song is almost referenced as being from Some Great Reward, not People Are People), but it's not something I plan on arguing about. I also personally don't think that any other version of the song would be notable enough for its own article, so I don't think the disambig page would be necessary. I also personally don't think there should be any separation between articles of the same exact song, when one is a cover, I think they should always remain at the same page, but that's a different story. John5008 | talk to me 06:44, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
One other point I should add to further my opinion that the originl placement of the article should be kept is that when referring to "People Are People", I'd say that 99% of the time that would be in reference to the song/single and only 1% of the time to the compilation (maybe some of the other DM editors can back me up on this opinion). In fact on the Depeche Mode talk page almost two years ago, there was a question of whether or not the album even existed. John5008 | talk to me 03:11, 2 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure about those percentages but I would suggest that the song and the album should kept sep. because the single "People Are People" was released in the US to promote the comp album of the same name. It was not released to promote Some Great Reward. Jackbox1971 02:51, 29 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:People are People (RuPaul).jpeg edit

Image:People are People (RuPaul).jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
