Controversies should probably include something to the effect of "is a particularly rapey college"

So this article was published recently, in which a former student at Pensacola describes how the college staff handled their sexual assault. It cites other articles; together, these all paint what seems to be a notable picture regarding the college's handling of sexual assaults. 108.3.188.161 (talk) 22:56, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

However, what exactly makes this incident any more notable than any other sex scandal at an institution? Did it receive national media attention, beyond a few bloggers with an axe to grind? Did it influence some sort of major regulatory changes? Sadly, most significant institutions in America have been involved in some sort of sex scandal at one time or another, and there are all too often allegations of poor handling. For example, a search for "pensacola sex scandal" returns just as many (if not more) hits for a scandal involving the Escambia County Sheriff's Office and a public high school as for Pensacola Christian College. On that note, one may argue that Pensacola is a rapey town, if it weren't for the fact most significant towns would yield similar results. In my own early years at Wikipedia, one thing I had to learn the hard way is Wikipedia is not intended to cover petty news issues. Neutrality

There seems to be undue weight given to certain controversies, such as the rape scandal which is, aside from two Florida newspaper articles, only covered by bloggers who would fail WP:RS. In comparison, both Port Charlotte High School and Charlotte High School (Punta Gorda, Florida) have been covered in the local newspaper for sex scandals, but consensus has been to not include references to those scandals on the schools' articles because they are not notable. Some may point to xoJane, but if we're going to go there, we may as well start writing about every case which gets mentioned on Investigation Discovery or a daytime talk show as well. There is also a claim that the Campus Church is not a true local church, a criticism for which I have been unable to find significant references for. Although it is true, the text The 4.54 ± 0.05 billion years age of the Earth, the Big Bang theory, and scientific theories of abiogenesis and evolution are rejected by Pensacola Christian College. in the Academics section seems to be overkill, since it's just a restatement of the preceding text, and it seems to be intended to discredit the institution's position on the origins of Earth. I recommend a comparison of this article to University of California, Berkeley, a campus which has also been the subject of controversy, but lacks the undue weight this article gives to controversies. Update

I've trimmed down a lot of the questionable content. It's questionable as to whether The Student Voice is even notable at all beyond the news coverage it received, but should an encyclopedia cover every sour grapes blog that gets news coverage? Proposed Article Rearrangement

This article's "Student Life" section mentions the "Faith and King-James-only Debate".

1. This should be moved to a new section called "Doctrinal Stance", "Beliefs", or a similar title.
2. The word "debate" suggests there should be dispute about the faith and King-James only stance of the college. The title should only be "King-James-only" and "Doctrinal Beliefs". Whether or not those beliefs are disputed by the reader is another matter entirely. (I don't believe in KJV-only).

The "Conflict with Kent Hovind" section has far too much weight for the prominence of the paragraph. "Construction of a new Crowne Center" would have just as much meaning. This paragraph title should be demoted. A link to the Kent Hovind article should also be created. The section on "Creation and Evolution" positions does have to do with academics, but would fit better under PCC beliefs as well. A general statement that "PCC claims belief in the inerrancy of the bible, and therefore promotes young-earth creation, conservative politics, and Judeo-Christian morality in its classrooms and textbooks" would be better suited as a general summary of what PCC academics are like. Therefore, I suggest the following edit:

Statement of Faith

PCC rejects Calvinism, Modernism, Neo-orthodoxy and the modern day charismatic movement and specifically states that "Pensacola Christian is not a part of the 'tongues movement' and does not allow students to participate in or promote any charismatic activities, nor do we permit students to promote hyper-Calvinism."[30]

KJV-only Position

PCC states that belief that the Textus Receptus is the superior Greek text of the Bible. Upon this basis, use the King James version of the Bible is required for all pulpit ministry and classroom Bible instruction.[30]

Worldview (alternatively, "position on origins")

The school college? accepts a literal interpretation of the Genesis creation narrative from the Bible and teaches students young Earth creationism.[12] Students are taught that God created the Earth in six literal 24-hour days[12] and its biology classes teach creationism.[13] I also suggest that the section about "Conflict with Kent Hovind" be removed and replaced with "Legal Battles". Under it, the paragraph about unpaid taxes could be placed (PCC is a nonprofit venture, and the paragraph is not clear whether the college won or lost. That should be included too.) Here's what it would look like:

In the mid-1990s, after former senior vice president Rebekah Horton learned of Kent Hovind's anti-tax stand where he claimed he did not have to pay taxes, she testified during Hovind's 2006 criminal trial that his tax beliefs are "against Scripture's teaching" and she reported the misleading doctrine because "I didn't want to see innocent people get led astray."[31] After learning of Hovind's tax teaching, Pensacola Christian College no longer permitted students to work at Creation Science Evangelism, Hovind's organization.[31] Rebekah Horton testified in federal court that she will report people who break federal tax law.[31]

ABeka Book

In 1996, state and federal agencies requested millions of dollars of unpaid taxes between 1988 and 1995 from A Beka Book, at the time a division of PCC.[6] A Beka Book (named after Horton's wife, Rebecca), provides a K–12 curriculum that is used by some Christian schools and homeschooling families[7] and is one of the largest Christian textbook publishers in America. COI Edit request

I'm a student at PCC.

A better more up-to-date source would be: Pathway: 23 and older students

According to the link above, it is clear that "Male students may not be off campus with female students *unless* [my emphasis] the female is 23 or older".

Therefore, a better wording here would be:

• Female* students over the age of 23 are not required to have a chaperone on a date, but cannot go to a beach or a park after dark and cannot "visit the home of an unmarried person of the opposite gender."

This might include that Mr. Troy Shoemaker was the high school principal, academy administrator, and academic vice-president, as is mentioned in the linked article.

Also, the word "installed" suggests deliberate malicious manipulation by college authorities. A better wording might be "voted in" or "chosen".

Also, the fact that Mr. Shoemaker is a PCC graduate is mentioned twice -- once in this sentence, then exactly what he graduated from in the next. This needs only be mentioned once.
