Current Campaigns

I think it's vital that we look at what Peace Action is doing now with regard to nuclear weapons and the war in Iraq. I took the last pice from 'History' to introduce these new campaigns.

Merge SANE into Peace Action

In an effort to improve both the Peace Action article and the SANE article, we might as well merge the two articles together, as SANE is a predecessor organization to Peace Action. Thus instead of having two so-so articles, we can have one larger and more complete article, though it will still need considerable cleanup. Schuminweb 05:33, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

Merged, but still needs work

The SANE article and the Peace Action article are now one, but I believe that the newly combined article still needs a lot of work. As such, I left the cleanup tag in place. As far as I can tell, this article mostly needs a section (currently stubbed) about the history of the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign. • I have added the refimprove template. This article has a grand total of 6 references. Of those, the majority are used in the first 6 paragraphs, and all are exhausted in the first third of the article. That's an awful lot of unverified info, for a subject that should be pretty easy to verify. EJSawyer (talk) 18:28, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

"SANE" stands for...

SANE was not an acronym, and never stood for "Scientists Against Nuclear Energy", and in fact the organization never has had a position on nuclear energy. The name came from Erich Fromm's book The Sane Society ISBN 11993-6561-0.

Other popular mistaken guesses about SANE being an acronym include:

• Students Against Nuclear Energy
• Students Against Nearly Everything
• Scientists/Students Against Nuclear... (people often trailed off and couldn't figure out what the "E" stood for after they learned that we didn't take a position on nuclear power.

History/Timeline

I find the two headlines somewhat redundant. Any thoughts on scaling down or combining the two sections? Perhaps more paragraph form can be used instead of a list of events. Barkeep 13:36, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree with you. They should be merged. The "timeline" should be converted to paragraphs and put under the "history" section. SchuminWeb (Talk) 15:54, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

I converted the timeline to paragraphs. I eliminated info that dealt with subjects Peace Action only had an interest in, but lacked their participation and involvement. Some paragraphs and the like may require more organization. Barkeep 16:14, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Deleting Publications Section

I have deleted the recently added Publications section because it consisted of a miscellaneous selection of books mostly not specifically related to Peace Action. The three items that did relate to Peace Action duplicated books listed in the References section. This list of books may be more appropriate for the article on the Peace Movement. link removed for the One World Flag-- an international symbol of diversity

I had submitted an external link for the One World Flag, a grassroots organization which worked in conjunction with Peace Action members/chapters in various places in the wake of 9/11, in protest of the Iraq War and since. I am not affiliated with the organization, but have heard its originator speak at various events with local U.N. chapters, etc. I know this symbol is being embraced by a growing coalition of nonviolence, peace, civil rights, multi-cultural groups, etc., under which the largest vision is possible.

I believe my submission is in alignment with the Wikipedia guideline: Such pages could contain further research that is accurate and on-topic.

I hope you will allow my re-submission of this link to stand. I am a believer that Peace Action and the One World Flag are achieving more of their aims by way of such networking and joint action. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JoanAroma (talk • contribs) 15:25, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Grassroots section has dating issues

I marked the Grassroots section for issues related to out-of-date and ambiguously dated statements. The Bush administration ended over 3 years ago, yet a statement refers to "countries the Bush administration deems 'rogue nations'". Are these countries regarded as rogue nations by the Obama administration? If so, then "Bush and Obama administrations" should be referred to; otherwise, "deemed" may be a more appropriate turn of phrase.

Another statement refers to a "recent" petition, but gives no context as to exactly what timeframe is referenced. EJSawyer (talk) 18:23, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
