Removed "House of Commons parliamentary duties legal defence fund" claim

The article claimed that Flynn received £10K+ of legal assistance from the "House of Commons parliamentary duties legal defence fund". This claim is not supported by any of the cited sources, nor can I find any source that suggests it, nor can I even find any reference to this alleged fund other than this Wikipedia page. I have therefore removed the claim. As this is a biography page, you must cite a source if you restore it. Rogerborg (talk) 22:11, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Not Shadow Leader of the House

Not Shadow Leader of the House of Commons according to his office as reported by South Wales Argus yesterday:

"Rumours that Mr Flynn had been appointed shadow leader of the house had been circulating on Twitter earlier in the morning after it was announced he would be taking business questions for Labour. A spokeswoman from his Westminster office confirmed this was “definitely not” the case. “He’s just taking business questions today because of the lack of people available,” she said."[1]

Also Telegraph this morning does not list him in the post.[2] So we should probably remove the Infobox addition unless cites to the contrary are provided soon. Rwendland (talk) 14:25, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

Info box order

Do we not think that Paul Flynn's 31 years as a MP are more noteworthy than his two brief stints in the shadow cabinet in 2016?

I know best practice says offices are ranked in order, but principally Paul Flynn was and will be remembered as the MP for Newport West, not the (acting) shadow minister.

I would also point out that he was a shadow minister in the 1980s too. Littlemonday (talk) 09:17, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Should say "Was a member of parliament"

Burden of proof on Paul Flynn

There is no source anywhere that says he DID follow through with resigning...one would need a source to say he did, not to confirm what every source says, that he was still an MP when he died.LE (talk) 15:30, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

The current text does not suggest that he did resign, so we don't need to say that he didn't, and certainly not without a source. Absolutelypuremilk (talk) 15:33, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

That's only because I changed the section header from "resignation". That a proposal was made but not followed through on needs no source if there's no evidence it was followed through on.LE (talk) 16:23, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Welsh speaker

The article says this: "... leaving him and his four siblings to be raised in poverty by their mother; it was she who taught him Welsh" but later also says this: "Flynn was a fluent speaker of Welsh, having learned the language as an adult". There seems to be some contradiction here. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:57, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Just to complete the set, there is the BBC obit used, as a source, which says quite plainly: "He learned Welsh while a pupil at St Illtyd's College and said he fell in love with the language at that time." So I've at least corrected the "Personal life" section. Did that 2001 interview in The Guardian get it wrong about his mother? That seems very unlikely. Do we just leave it in? Date of death?

The Guardian has Sunday 17th February, as does South Wales Argus, BBC, Belfast Telegraph, Huff Po, etc. etc. The current sing'e source (also South Wales Argus was published on Sunday but says "died yesterday". Shouldn't we just replace that one source with one or two of the many others? Martinevans123 (talk) 19:37, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
