Recording date of Cotton Crop Blues edit
On the Sun Records box of CDs I own, the date for James Cotton's recording of Cotton Crop Blues is 1950. It is also listed as 1950 on his biographical site. Other sources say 1954, like the current entry. Does anyone have any other info? RobinWiseman (talk) 10:58, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
- Just seeing this now. Two sources say 1954 – Music writer/biographer Colin Escott for Junior Parker James Cotton Pat Hare: Mystery Train (Rounder Records): "He [Hare] first appeared at the Sun studio in 1952 ... From 1952 until he left town with Junior Parker in 1954, Hare became a regular fixture at the studio ... On May 14, 1954 Cotton and Hare recorded the dark and compelling 'Cotton Crop Blues'". [liner notes, 1990]; and Robert Palmer in Deep Blues: "Early in 1954 Phillips recorded the young harp man James cotton, with lead guitar by Auburn 'Pat' Hare ... neither ever quite equaled their Sun record 'Cotton Crop Blues'". Cause of death edit
As it stands now, the article says that he died of alcoholism ("ultimately fatal problem with alcohol abuse.[4]") and later says he died of lung cancer ("He succumbed to lung cancer in prison. He died in 1980 in Saint Paul, Minnesota.[3]"). Reference 4, AllMusic, doesn't say anything at all about dying of alcoholism, but reference 3 does back up the lung cancer version and also refers back to a published book. Therefore I'm removing "ultimately fatal." Dgndenver (talk) 05:08, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
