Formerly known as Patronage Secretary to the Treasury.

In the link for Arthur Peel, 1st Viscount Peel, who was secretary 1873-4, it says he was Patronage Secretary to the Treasury.

On the Secretary to the Treasury page, it says that Parliamentary Sec was formerly known as Patronage Sec.

1. Should we put this in?

2. Do we have any more info on when the terms changed?

Merger?

I suggest that this page is merged with the existing Chief Whip page so as to better connect the roles and responsibilities of the Chief Whip with the list of holders. Otherwise this page feels like a sinecure! Atomix330 (talk) 02:58, 9 December 2022 (UTC)

I disagree. The Chief Whip page contains information on Chief Whips in other parliamentary systems. PS The post of Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury is not a sinecure. The Chief Whip could not sit in Cabinet without it. FieldOfWheat (talk) 17:50, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

While I agree with you that the pages should not be merged, the post of Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury as it currently operates is one hundred percent a sinecure. The fact that the post has no meaningful responsibilities and appointment is only needed to allow the chief whip to sit in the cabinet and draw a salary is why it is a sinecure. • Don't merge – the proposed target page is a generic page about the concept of chief whips globally. Historically the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury was not a sinecure position and merging would not reflect this position. Ebonelm (talk) 11:00, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
