The article says the caterpillar is green with dark bands. This is true only of the last two or three instars. First- and second-instar caterpillars are dark brown, almost black, with an irregular white band at the middle. The third instar is intermediate, with some green. - I corrected the description and added a bit about the eggs, since the illustration shows them. I can't add references. The information comes from personal experience--I've reared this species from eggs--and is also available in life-cycle photos on the Web. Some such series are at BugGuide.net.
