Soviet era edit

The history section lacks any mention of the Soviet era. During a stay in Lithuania in 1996, I got the impression from a Vilnius native whose family had been Nomenklatura that during Soviet times that Palanga had been to some extent a playground for Party members and Soviet youth organizations, such as the Komsomol. Perhaps someone could add something about this — and about the changes to Palanga since independence. Has this idyllic resort town been discovered by Western Europeans?

PS: It's odd that there is no mention of the towering Church of the Assumption [1] or the sometimes controversial Soviet War Memorial. Sca (talk) 22:20, 14 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Hi Sca. From my experience there, it really wasn't on the tourist trail for Western Europeans at all, most of the tourists I saw in Palanga seemed to be Russian, German, Baltic or native Lithuanian, and few spoke English. Still, it was a very pleasant and slow-paced seaside town with some really lovely sand dunes to the south. I suppose the relatively fleeting summer and the Lithuanians flocking there all at once is one reason for it not getting more international attention. As for the church, it is quite a beautiful one, but I found little information on it and didn't have the time or knowledge to create an article on it or contribute to the Palanga article. I'd rather leave that to those who can understand Lithuanian! Ðiliff «» (Talk) 18:20, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Alternative names? edit

Polish: Połąga and German: Polangen are exonyms but not the alternative names, because Palanga never was in Germany or Poland so, I think, M.K is right removing them. GiW (talk) 20:38, 6 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

These may include alternative spellings, longer or shorter forms, historical names, significant names in other languages, etc from WP:Names. The obvious connection here is the Tyszkiewicz family. You're welcome to start a "Names" section dedicated to the alternative names.Volunteer Marek 01:43, 7 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Seriously, not this junk again [2].Volunteer Marek 06:40, 7 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
So, by this logic, should we add Lithuanian and German exonyms to all the cities of Poland? GiW (talk) 12:15, 7 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

'Currently' edit

Unless someone's updating daily, current and currently should not be used in an encyclopedia article, as the reference could become outdated at any time. Sca (talk) 14:24, 29 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Should "allegedly ther lece of the afterlife" be clarified? edit

Should "allegedly ther lece of the afterlife" be clarified? I'm afraid I don't know how, though. R. Henrik Nilsson (talk) 17:20, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
