Picture of station still needed edit

Whatever PhotoCatBot may think, this article still needs a representative photograph. The image of Rewley Road station's brass memorial plaque set into the pavement of Frideswide Square is poignant and appropriate, but the article still needs an historical photo of what the actual station looked like! Station names edit

Having come across an old timetable which states "Oxford Rooley Road", which caught my eye because I'd not seen that spelling before, it set me wondering, what official names has the station had? --Redrose64 (talk) 20:29, 22 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yard edit

"The goods yard remained available for use until 5 April 1984[7] and was cleared in 1998."

Which yard is this referring to? There was nothing on the site on the town side of the swing bridge when I was there in 1994 other than the station car park. DiverScout (talk) 09:19, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

The little [7] tells me to check Mitchell & Smith 2005, fig. 9, which states "The yard was in use until 5th April 1984 and is now covered with houses". The photo shows the passenger station and the goods shed which stood between it and the GWR station. The photo is taken from the north, looking south. Fig. 11 in the same book states "It is seen on 14th December 1998 as dismantling began.
Certainly in the 1980s I remember coal wagons (mostly HTO type hoppers) on sidings at the back of the car park. --Redrose64 (talk) 14:50, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Not having that text makes it impossible to check the little [7], so thanks for so doing. Having lived off Hythe Bridge street in 1995, and walked past the station (frequenting Brett's burgers) by the old station between 1990 and 1994 I cannot say that I ever saw track in the yard. By 1995 I know that the only panels remaining were on the swing bridge, so I cannot see how the idea that the yard was not cleared until 1998 is correct. Proposed correction edit

I work for Wafic Said and would like to propose an amendment to a reference to him which appears on this page. Given my professional role I understand that there may be a perceived conflict of interest so I am submitting this change to the "talk" page for consideration. I should like to replace the description of Wafic Said as a "controversial Saudi arms dealer", which is subjective and inaccurate, with "Syrian-Saudi Arabian financier, businessman and philanthropist".
