Talk:Ottoman titles

What is the source? It looks just wrong.

  • It is: the 'three noble titles' are not excusively, nor even mainly, aristocratic, nor the only ones, nor by the way limited to the Ottoman empire See a better source I've added, notably also its pages for (the khevival dynasty's) Egypt [[1]] and its bottom links Titles & Glossary Fastifex 09:36, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pashas, Bey, effendi &co

edit

Just looking of the pages to Pasha, Bey and effendi we see a larger list of titles. These should be at the very least mention in this article. For exemple: khedive, viziers, Mushir, Lewa, Miralai and Kaimakam. Dryzen 17:47, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • I've added the essentials for the dynasty itself, but such a vague page title and no initial definition just won't do. Please specify which titles are to be included (noble, military, court, judicial, administrative offices etc.?) so a proper structure can be created, or limit this article's scope and rename it accordingly (including see also mentions for other spheres of Ottoman life), which might be a better idea as much would probably be just doubling other, more specialized articles, so you better examine those closely, which is a good way to get inspiration anyhow. Doing all this properly is a big job, otherwise it's a naively bad idea! Fastifex 09:36, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
I happened to have landed on yhis page while reading about the Pashas. With only three titles presented I though it was a grosly under nourished article. I though it an interessting idea to enumerate the Ottoman titles and hierachy all in one place. It definitly does need work. From the history page it looks like a rather old page. Its amazing that so little was done with it. I beleive that this page should present as many titles in hierachy divided by sphere of influence: like Fastifex indicated (noble, military, court, judicial, administrative offices etc). Each title with a one to two line explenation for those with a self title page like Pasha while a slightly longer text for orphan titles like Lewa. I am though no expert on the subject and as I said was looking for these titles. Therefore my suggestions are from the point of view of a reader/researcher. Dryzen 19:50, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Relative Rank

edit

I understand that that the titles moved around a bit and a Wali in one place might have outranked a Khedive in another, but I am going to attempt a relative ranking. Please fix as you see necessary.
