The text reads "his last post was as a corporal in the Norwegian home guard." I find that hard to believe and would like som source given to support that. As with other armies if you retire as a General you keep that rank. Corporal is the second lowest rank in the Norwegian Army. If Ruge was so ceverely demoted he would have to have been court martialed or something equally dramatic. I have not seen any mention of this in other sources. More information is needed. It is, in fact, true. He wasn't demoted as such, though. He had to resign from the army in 1946, but volunteered for the Home Guard(which was established in 1946), which was another branch of the service. He demanded to serve as a private soldier. He was "promoted" to corporal after a short while, though. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any available sources on the net right now, I'll see what I can dig up though. I am still not convinced. I would like to see where this web page gets its information from. A "generalship" is an appointment by king-in-council and as such the rank and title remains with the holder when he is granted an honourable discharge from his post. So he would still be a general. Of course there is a possibility that he walked around in the Home Guard with corporal insignia, but serving as a regular soldier at the age of 64...I at least want to know the whole story with a reputable source first.Inge (talk) 08:01, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
