Place names

Regarding this, nope those names are not "modern" as implied, plus we had long discussion and community agreed that we should have Kiev Voivodeship not "Kijów Voivodeship", as well as Brest Litovsk Voivodeship but not "Brześć Litewski Voivodeship", Smolensk Voivodeship and not Smoleńsk Voivodeship and so on. Besides this is English WP not PL, so I do not see any reason to impose PL names on Russian, Belarussian and Lithuanian place names. M.K. (talk) 12:01, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

I will appreciate a link to the long discussion on this subject. I looked at Talk:Kiev Voivodeship, Talk:Brest Litovsk Voivodeship and Talk:Smolensk Voivodeship, but didn't find much. Also, if you revert back to Ru, Be, Ua and Lt names, then please at least put Pl names in parenthesis. It's not a matter of national pride, it's just to make the use of this page as reference easier of Wikipedia readers. I suppose most ppl interested in this article are interested in Pl history and are likely to consult sources that use Polish spelling. — Kpalion^(talk) 12:29, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

I doubt that majority of readers would look for "Kijów" instead of Kiev or Kyiv. Redirects solves problem of secondary names in case as you say then somebody will use sources that prefer Polish spelling. M.K. (talk) 12:43, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't get your point about redirects, that would make sense if I were arguing for an article move which I'm not. Besides the list, after your edit, is now terribly inconsistent. Some towns which are now outside Poland are listed by their PL names, other by their local names. Is that on purpose? If so, what purpose is it? Can we agree on one consistent style, that is either "Kijów (now Kiev, Ukraine)" or "Kiev" (Polish: Kijów, now in Ukraine)"? — Kpalion^(talk) 16:37, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Answering your points. Perhaps I missed to restore some names to their original local spelling, if you see such, please remove remaining Polish artifacts and restore local names. I also added this in order to improve situation and present readers opportunity to find names in different languages. Hope this solves most of the problems. Regarding issue of adding additional foreign names directly to the article itself, I doubt it is necessary, moreover I think it will be inconsistent with WP:NOTDICDEF, plus we already have additional table which presents Polish spelling render (while we do not have for LT, RU, BE etc).Cheers, M.K. I should really ask you that you clean up the mess that you made yourself, but well... Now all the list uses only place names in the official languages of the countries where those places happen to be today (except Kiev, Brest-Litovsk and Warsaw). I hope that you're satisfied now and that this is the end of this topic. I would like to see Lwow (Lviv) and Kijow (Kyiv) and so on.
