References to primary sources edit

OpenZFS has been recently started as a project, so it's still quite uncommon to find 2nd or 3rd party reviews, discussions etc. I've found three such sources, and will be adding them soon. Of course, all additions are more than welcome. -- Dsimic (talk) 11:18, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Here are some secondary/tertiary sources, in case you are not already aware of them:
Thank you very much! I've already seen one or two of these (theregister.co.uk and phoronix.com) and unfortunately they're providing too general info, making them not so good as references. But, the page on infostor.com — which is new to me — is quite good! I already went ahead and modified the article to also include this Infostor reference.
What we still need here is a good 2nd/3rd-party reference covering the history of ZFS and its open source implementations. Having that incorporated, removing the "better references needed" tag would be clearly possible. -- Dsimic (talk) 00:48, 9 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

OpenZFS vs. ZFS edit

I added a new section about the differences between OpenZFS and the closed source ZFS, but that was deleted by the admin. I think there is a interest in knowing the differences between them? What are the feature set that differs? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.253.165.28 (talk) 11:06, 8 January 2016‎ (UTC)Reply

Hello! As noted in my edit, your addition was unreferenced and of somewhat questionable nature; in other words, it would need a broader context to be actually usable to the readers. Could you, please, let me see the sources you've used? — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 11:11, 8 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Recent changes to the article edit

Hello, Shaddim! As already noted in my edit summary, please don't get me wrong but you seem slightly confused. For example, Ubuntu (or any other Linux distribution) can't include OpenZFS simply because there's no OpenZFS as a software component; instead, OpenZFS is a movement, or an umbrella project, which serves to organize and put other real projects (that is, actual open-source ZFS implementations) on the same page.

Furthermore, the whole thing with Ubuntu and ZFS is currently more of a legal-related controversy than something oriented toward adding new value to the Linux ecosystem as a whole. As such, it doesn't provide much encyclopedic value and shouldn't be a significant part of the article until the whole thing clears out. Maybe mentioning it briefly would fit well, I'll see to introduce that into the OpenZFS § History section a bit later. That's my opinion. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 13:31, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

By the way, this article from The Register also misinterprets OpenZFS as an actual ZFS implementation. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 16:08, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Here's my take on describing the situation with Ubuntu's inclusion of ZFS on Linux, together with some unrelated wording improvements. This description is as neutral and close to the sources as possible, and I hope you'll agree that it makes us covered. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 16:49, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hello Dsimic, I think the OpenZFS themselves use it for both (e.g. "Download distributions that include OpenZFS", hardly referes to the project but the software). I also think this makes sense, because refering to the "Open source" ZFS and the Oracle ZFS fork both as "ZFS" is more confusing. (here they desribe OpenZFS as the sum of the open source forks)Shaddim (talk) 18:21, 6 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Also, I disagree with this removal: this had nothign to do with the ZFS/OpnZFS naming confusion. Infact, this is content whcih should be included. Shaddim (talk) 18:25, 6 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi.
I started porting the ZFS file system to the FreeBSD operating system.
There is a lot to do, but I'm making good progress, I think.
I'm doing my work in those directories: 73.89.21.151 (talk) 04:05, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

REDIRECT of "ZFS on Linux" and "Native ZFS Linux port" here edit

Both lemmas redirect to "OpenZFS#Distributions" which no longer exist. That's pretty bad, since "ZFS on Linux" attracted a lot of development. AFAIR there were two major implemenations: kernel module and as FUSE. User:ScotXWt@lk 09:39, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
