My 16 April 2006 additions were largely abstracted from announcements from the OpenLDAP mailing lists and the OpenLDAP.org web site. The prior content was only slightly changed. It seemed appropriate to note that OpenLDAP was originally derived from the University of Michigan source code and then to document the many changes that have been implemented. These are all verifiable through the more detailed announcements from the project itself. The comment that slurpd is being deprecated is supported by recent emails on the OpenLDAP-software email list by Kurt Zielenga and substantiated with other members of the Core Team. -- MartyHeyman

A guide to chaining with OpenLDAP

I removed the external link to http://www.mark-macdonald.com/ldap/. Available at this URL is a brief description of LDAP, an brief description of LDAP chaining and links to two documents. It is the latter which I suspect was intended to be linked to this article. The first document is a summary of the second. The second is merely a student project report on a project that involved OpenLDAP Software. I know of many other papers involving OpenLDAP Software. As I believe providing a bibliography of OpenLDAP-related papers is beyond the scope of this article, I not only will not add the various papers I am aware of, I have removed this paper from the external links. slapd an abbreviation ?

Is slapd a proper abbreviation ? I'd guess that s stands for standalone, l stands for LDAP and d for daemon. What are a and p ? Jay 11:26, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

The original process name was ldapd. Why the successor is called slapd is lost to the mists of time, but likely they thought it was more pronounceable than sldapd, so they dropped the "d" from LDAP.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mishikal (talk • contribs) 06:10, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
