Robinson takes a break edit

The sentence "On 10 June 2021, Robinson announced that he was taking a "short break from the game",[36] with Sussex saying that he would be unavailable for their first two games of the 2021 t20 Blast." should be moved from the "International career" section to the end of the 'Domestic career' section. He is currently suspended by England and this decision will therefore only affect his domestic commitments with Sussex. 77.99.37.105 (talk) 22:04, 10 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 9 August 2021 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: no consensus

In essence, two editors (including the proposer) support moving because the topic is primary with respect to (recent) usage and two editors express doubt as to whether the subject is primary with respect to long-term significance (per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC). Both views are reasonable, so there is no consensus.

Depending on what happens, it may well be possible to move the article with a clear consensus in 6 months' time, and that would be preferable. (non-admin closure) Havelock Jones (talk) 17:27, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ollie Robinson (cricketer, born 1993)Ollie Robinson – This cricketer is now an international cricketer, whereas the other cricketer of the same name is not. As such, he gets way more page views (about 5-10x as many views in the last few months: [1] and had multiple times more page views last summer too (when he was around the England squad, but didn't play)). The two cricketers are the only people commonly known as Ollie, and the Sussex/England bowler seems to be a clear primary topic compared to the Kent wicket-keeper. The problem with this is that they are both confused by the media at times. When this one was in the press due to his social media history a while ago (which may be as much of a contributory factor as playing for England fwiw - and is likely to be much more short term) at least one story in the press linked it to the other one. I would be concerned that if we don't disambiguate them that there's a real possibility that users get them more mixed up than they already do. I'd say that there's a case to wait a little longer (6-12 months) here - particularly due to the social media kerfuffle and his suspension that resulted from it. That will allow the primary topic to be properly established. Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:52, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

My only concern is WP:10YEARTEST. If he stops playing tests in 2022 or 2023, would the current Oliver Robinson page not be more notable? Spa-Franks (talk) 14:41, 2 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
No need to move Oliver Robinson, as he's not known as "Ollie". But even if he stops next year, that's still lots more notability than the other cricketer of the same name, and the only only also known as Ollie. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:08, 2 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Fwiw the page views seem pretty even other than for the odd spike. It looks rather temporary - seriously, just give it 6-8 months and look again and then we'll see what the actual pattern is rather than be blinded by this summer's flash caused by his Test debut and more public uncovering of his rather unpleasant social media history. In terms of looking into the future, it's worth bearing in the mind that The Other Ollie Robinson is five years younger, but is easily on course to play more matches in every domestic format than This Ollie Robinson - his career has had a much quicker start and I wouldn't like to say where he ends up in 10 years. • Support. Easy primary topic at the moment, given that he's an international and the other Ollie isn't. That might change, of course, but per WP:CRYSTAL we don't need to worry about that now, we can handle it as and when. And on page views, the fact that Ollie born 1998 has a graph that tracks Ollie born 1993's, that suggests that a lot of people are currently ending up at the wrong target so that's extra reason to make the move. (How many of us honestly know which year he was born anyway...)  — Amakuru (talk) 01:11, 3 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ollie Robinson (cricketer, born 1993)Ollie Robinson – A few months have passed since the previous RM, and with Robinson now having been named as one of the cricketers of the year by Wisden, I think he is unambiguously the primary topic right now. While a reasonable point was made about the other Ollie's career and WP:10YT, I believe that it goes also into WP:CRYSTAL territory, as Amakuru notes; and it is not necessary for us to arrange for the possibility of a changing primary topic in the future; we cannot predict any such changes now, and the project is a work in progress; we can consider those changes as they happen. Most of the time - i.e. when he's not in the England team - the page views continue to not really suggest an obvious primary target here you know. I don't really care that much, but it might get a bit silly if we end up moving pages several times. If it does get moved then hat notes - including to the Oliver Robinson dab page - will be needed of course. Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:46, 1 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Very weak oppose Personally I don't feel that a page move here is really necessary. Obviously this player is an international whereas the other player is not currently one, but as BST states, page views when he's not playing for England don't really suggest a primary topic. With a rugby union player with a similar name also, I'd keep Ollie Robinson as a redirect to the disambig page and keep the two cricketers with the current disambigs, but to be honest if the page was to be moved I wouldn't really be that fussed. • Support my reasoning for proposing it last time hasn't changed, the bowler is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:46, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support, seems to be the primary topic. --Dweller (talk) Old fashioned is the new thing! 12:07, 5 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. He is the primary topic. Perhaps a 'not to be confused with' header should be added for the similar name to the rugby player? StickyWicket (talk) 11:38, 8 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Weak support—I don't see a reason to make the move now as it seems more of a fandom-related change than one that adds to the encyclopedia. However, the technical rationale behind primary topic appears to be met as of today, so if it must be moved, so be it. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 16:09, 9 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
