Is there proof that "Okhotsk atka mackerel" is the standard common name besides Fishbase? edit
This name seems to be drawn on the incorrect conclusion that it is a subspecies of the Atka mackerel. Or maybe we should move the article to hokke, which is the name most people who know the fish know it by... Shii (tock) 08:18, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- Well yes, there is some confusion about the taxonomy in the literature, which is not uncommon with some of these fish species. And you are correct that the fish is known as hokke in Japan, where most of it is caught and marketed. The article was named Arabesque greenling, but that's the name it is known by in France. In English the species is usually known as the Okhotsk atka mackerel. The real reasons I moved the article to that name are:
- that's what Fishbase calls it (1) and WikiProject Fishes defers to FishBase as the definitive source
- that's what the FAO calls it (2) and WikiProject Fisheries and Fishing defers to the FAO as the definitive source. --Epipelagic (talk) 08:55, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
