I find the wording of this article to be poor and biased. The content should contain factual information about additives and their purpose(s). We shouldn't fill the page with most snake oil stories. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT ^PRAISE 14:33, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Then WP:SOFIXIT! You know how to edit pages. You edit plenty of oily articles, so dive in. You the man. If you know how to talk about snake oil, then you do it your way.

The last I looked, the article does have a lot of factual information. Did you read it?

Looks great. Some comments below:

sounds like jargon? The term does not convey any info that I could see. But then I am no expert.

• total base number (TBN), important for motor oil

with explanation of what TBN is and why anyone cares

• History

from an international perspective, this is not a site for U.S. readers

• A list of what typifies modern motor oil, including API standards... European and Asian perspectives

again international emphasis vs U.S.-centric perspective.

To me, the article could begin with a list of generic additives and the range of their contents, then each additive would get a subsection that would explain how the specific additive works so that readers can see how additives are selected for particular applications. Then within the same section, the examples of 1-3 specific chemicals used for each app (I confess to being a chemist). Trends in usage might be indicated since regulations and technologies change. The current section "Additives in the aftermarket and controversy", puzzled me and may be giving undue weight on something small..--Smokefoot (talk) 14:11, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
