Definition: article is self-contradictory and puzzling edit

@Cote d'Azur, Rococo1700, MiltenR, Ursus, Rhjph, Bob Burkhardt, and M-le-mot-dit: hi. You have been the main contributors, and it's a very useful article in general terms, but the essential element, a clear definition in the lead, is still missing. Further down in the article we have:

"...the construction of an odeon was similar to that of an ancient Greek theatre and Roman theatre, but it was only a quarter of the size and was provided with a roof for acoustic purposes, a characteristic difference."

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus offered seating for 5k people. One cannot say that a theatre had to hold 20k spectators to deserve the name. This needs to be clarified: any theatre with a (permanent) roof was an odeon? Is the roof the essential element? In any case,

A clear(er) definition must be placed in the lead, where it's all about size and nothing about a roof.
If the roof is the essential element, this must be firmly stated from the first sentence on. If that is NOT the case, this must be made clear, in an explicit way, but then place must be made in the definition for a case such as the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
