Some of the information in this article is misleading. For example, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was not an alumni of this school, as he did not graduate from ORMA and only spent a short period of time there as a student. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.11.6.205 (talk) 10:27, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually, it is not misleading to call Dale Earnhardt, Jr. an alumnus of Oak Ridge. According to Wikipedia's own article on "alumnus", the American Heritage Dictionary describes an "alumnus" as a "male graduate or former student of a school, college, or university." Thus the fact that he didn't graduate from Oak Ridge is irrelevant - he was a student there (in middle school, I believe) and is thus an alumnus of the school.

Dee Snider

Dee Snider appears to have been an alumni of the Baldwin Senior High School (Baldwin, New York) a very large high school public high schoollocated in Baldwin, New York. V. Joe (talk) 14:58, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

There are other notable alumni of Oak Ridge Military Academy/Oak Ridge Institute.

Jessica Maher, Class of 1996, currently serves on the White House Council on Environmental Quality as Assistant Director for Legislative Affairs.

George Stephens, Class of 1891, is credited with catching the first forward pass in football in 1895. He also was an instrumental entrepreneur in helping several North Carolina financial institutions (including Duke Energy and what would become Bank of America).

George Fountain Parrott, Class of 1905, served in the US Navy and was killed during World War I aboard the USS Shaw. The USS Destroyer Parrott (DD-218) was named in his honor for his heroic service.Chipcook141 (talk) 19:41, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Walter Thomas "Tee-Pot" Frye. Known as “Tee Pot” or just “Tee,” Frye spent more than 30 years as Coach and Athletics Director at Oak Ridge Military Academy, winning a state baseball championship in 1974. He also oversaw the transition of the school to a co-educational institution where he added two ladies to his baseball team. In his playing days, Frye was a shortstop known for his exceptional defense. He played 10 seasons in the minor leagues, including seven in the Carolina League, where he still holds the career records for games played at 953; at bats, 3,269 and hits, 487. Frye was called up by the Phillies late in 1942, but was drafted by the U.S. Army and spent three years as a staff sergeant, including time at the Overseas Replacement Depot in Greensboro. Why Dee Snider Was Listed (incorrectly) for Attending ORMA

The story behind why Dee Snider, former lead of 1980's metal band Twisted Sister, is believed to have attended Oak Ridge, is an interesting one. In the 1980's, "We're Not Gonna Take It" from the album Stay Hungry, was very popular on MTV and radio playlists. It was also popular in the dorms at Oak Ridge Military Academy after a long day of classes and marching on the drill field.

Towards the end of the song, the lyrics (or part of the lyrics spoken from the band members, probably Dee Snider) seems to be audible as "are you out of uniform?," or "you and your uniform." Then, what seems to be claimed as heard by many people listening to the song, "drop and give me twenty (push-ups), Oak Ridge pig." This specific, spoken line by Dee Snider is what led many cadets and alumni to believe that he may have attended the school.

There was a male cadet named Snider who attended ORMA in the late 1960's and early 1970's, but no school records or admittance from Dee Snider himself have proven he ever attended. Over the years, what was fanciful rumor/myth turned into "fact" that Dee Snider had attended the school at some point, and was probably dismissed or kicked out for outlandish behavior.Chipcook141 (talk) 19:41, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
