The different ombudspersons offices. edit

To judge from the web pages of the Northern Ireland Ombudsman (https://nipso.org.uk/)), there now is one office but three rôles, namely, as ombudsman for Public Sevices ([https://nipso.org.uk/nipso/ https://nipso.org.uk/nipso/), for Judicial Appointments (https://nipso.org.uk/nijao/), and as Local Government Commissioner for Standards (https://nipso.org.uk/nilgcs/, respectively). It also seems to exist a history, where earlier rôle splits were different from the present one. I do not understand whether or not the same individual has all three rôles at the same time, nor the historical development. I do notice that there are some inconsistencies in our articles, as in Stephen McGonagle, where I found the statement

In 1974, he took up a post as Northern Ireland Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration and Complaints,

where the position seems to refer to the second rôle, but the link is to the Northern Ireland Ombudsman article, which however only seems to refer to the first rôle:

The office of the NI Ombudsman, later known as the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO)... .

The confusion may well reflect external confusion or name changes. Note, that the official web page employs the abbreviation "nipsi" both for the entire office and for its first rôle.

When I or someone else has time to go through the present legislation and the history of the office(s), things may become clearer, and our articles improved. JoergenB (talk) 21:14, 27 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
