What are they called? edit

What are cemeteries specially build for dead soldiers called? Soldier cemetery? The English Wikipedia doesn't seem to have an article about that. --Abdull 20:52, 8 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Legal status edit

The page about enclaves talks about the legal status of this territory, but this page does not. I find that curious. - jmr

The cemetery is not an enclave/exclave, or owned by the US, or extraterritorial, but French soil managed by an American commission. It is a concession. French law applies, French police is the one that enforces it. America is like a landlord with special status, here. --Charles G. Delahaye (talk) 12:49, 27 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Some WWI graves edit

At least one of the graves in this cemetery (Quentin Roosevelt) was from WWI, not WWII. This contradicts the infobox's claim that all burials were from WWII. Jwillbur 20:40, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Quentin appears to be the only exception. Do you know of any others? This cemetery was not constructed until after WWII. The article states that Quentin was exhumed from his earlier burial place and reburied with his older brother, Theodore Jr. It's the only way any pre WWII bodies could be buried at this site. Also there are a few non-US citizens buried here, including a Scotsman and a Mexican. I know this because I've been there, but does anyone have any citations? 80.43.127.237 15:58, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

See page 19 of the | visitor`s guide (pdf format). --24.22.122.180 09:44, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article clearly states "American Soldiers" -not "American Citizens". Pyrex238 06:33, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

So the Scotsman would have been in the US Army? I'm not questioning you I'd just like to know ;) 78.146.253.123 21:04, 18 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes. Just as we now have Afghani soldiers in the U.S. Army, as well as soldiers who are not U.S. citizens, but are permanent residents or have some other status.
The American Battle Monument's FAQ [1] states that those eligible for burial are:
Except for Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines, burial in ABMC cemeteries is limited by the agreements with host countries to members of the U.S. armed forces who died overseas during the wars. U.S. civilians serving with our armed forces and Red Cross workers and entertainers serving the military were treated as members of the armed forces for burial entitlement. The agreement with the Philippine government permitted members of the Philippine Scouts and Philippine Army units that fought with U.S. forces in the Philippines to be interred at Manila American Cemetery.

Images for deletion edit

Hi everyone. The images here are up for deletion on Commons (commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Wwii normandy american cemetary.jpg) because there is no Freedom of Panorama in France, but it's unsure what copyright law would apply in the cemetery - French freedom of panorama, or the public domain status of Federal Government works. Feel free to weigh in, preferably with case law precedents about cross-border FOP issues. -mattbuck (Talk) 01:19, 21 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Coordinate error edit

The coordinates are correct. However, when I click the link I'm taken to a wrong location. Don't know how to fix. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Plguzman (talkcontribs) 20:03, 6 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Update - 75th Commemoriation edit

Article needs update of President Trump and French President Macron visit June, 2019. Where are the historians? Eschoryii (talk) 02:00, 8 June 2019 (UTC) Article says the visitor center was closed to be reopened in May 2019. Was it ready for the 75th celebration?Eschoryii (talk) 02:21, 8 June 2019 (UTC) Actual editing of article would be best responded to this inquiry rather than answering my question. So much effort is put into Wiki process over actual work product input into the encyclopedia. Sorry not allowed POV. Eschoryii (talk) 02:21, 8 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Geo-location error edit

Please, can anybody check the coordinates? Thanks 🙏 JKim (talk) 15:43, 10 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
