Origins of the word edit

Fiske may have referenced the term in his book, but I dispute that he "coined" it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.166.6.232 (talk) 15:27, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Noddy (TV interview technique)Nod shot – First, the term "noddy" is an informal way of describing this shot, more like filmmaker's WP:JARGON. This is also opportunity for WP:COMMONALITY as the term "noddy" varies slightly by region. Secondly, the current disambiguation for this term is cumbersome and somewhat inaccurate (its an editing technique, not part of the interview itself), and I can't think of an alternative that can be concise. On the other hand, rephrasing as "nod shot" (or perhaps "nodding shot") is simple, straightforward WP:NATURALDISAMBIG and commonly-used. Compare within the technical dictionaries and media studies books found in these Google Books results: nod shot, nodding shot, noddy shot. -- Netoholic @ 04:56, 17 February 2019 (UTC) - --Relisting. Xain36 (talk) 01:01, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Support, for now, in the absence of a better suggestion. Nod shot is certainly closer to the correct name here, but it feels like it's missing something... Perhaps Nod reaction shot or Nodding reaction shot is more WP:PRECISE? --IJBall (contribstalk) 20:57, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose for now, WP:COMMONNAME noted in sources as "noddy" and more likely search term than the proposed name. -- Whats new?(talk) 04:59, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Judging COMMONNAME using only the sources in the article actually points to the regional problem - which is why I gave several source alternatives in my proposal - in particular media studies books and film-making dictionaries - any of which will be added when this pages gets revised upon moving. And "noddy" as a search term is most often going to return pages and pages related to a children's TV show character. And no comment on the inaccurate disambiguation currently in use? -- Netoholic @ 13:24, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Noddy (TV interview technique)Noddy (television) – per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (television)#Articles about television the disambiguation should be just "television". Gonnym (talk) 11:11, 22 June 2021 (UTC) Relisting. Jack Frost (talk) 16:03, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
