Nike-Yardbird an elusive prey edit
I have just finished the Nike-Smoke article which had been translated from Portuguese. This left the elusive Nike-Yardbird which I suspect from evidence to have failed at the time the second stage, the Thiokol TE-289, was to have ignited. This suspicion is based on the reported apogee vs. the anticipated apogee in both attempts. Organizations have a tendency to be zip lipped about failures. As the Yardbird saw limited service after the Nike-Yardbird fiasco it seems that the enhanced Recruit itself was not a failure. I could spend a lot of time digging through NASA archives to dig up an explanation but that would probably be unacceptable due to the "original research" prohibition.
