Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on April 15, 2007.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that Canadian Ministers of Finance have a tradition of buying or wearing new shoes on budget day?

Just to clarify, he bought the ice skates for his son, not himself. I added that to the article. Caje47 23:25, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Caje47Reply

Barefoot? edit

Was John Manley barefoot when he gave his budget? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.137.100.12 (talk) 00:04, 15 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

I fixed it so it says that they did not wear new shoes on budget day. Whoever you are, thanks for pointing out this error. Miss Madeline | Talk to Madeline 21:24, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
No Problem. My pleasure. TecTec 22:31, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ostentatious non-reshoeing? edit

Didn't some finance minister at some point ostentatiously not wear new shoes, in order to symbolize reduced spending? - Montréalais (talk) 05:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

It might have been Gary Collins in BC, who I recall refused to wear new shoes to symbolize BC being unable to afford such extravagances, but because I couldn't find a source that said that I didn't include it. Is that what you were looking for? Miss Madeline | Talk to Madeline 07:16, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
