What's it for? edit

This article explains what's involved in Nestinarstvo, but it doesn't say what the purpose of the ritual is, or what it symbolizes, or what effect it's believed to have. Why is this ritual performed? --Elysdir 06:28, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ah... dunno, it's just a ritual to accompany the feast, you know, just a tradition. Supposedly it's so ancient we don't even know how it originated and what it was supposed to symbolize. I can assume it's most certainly of pagan origin though. TodorBozhinov 10:05, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
The purpose of the ritual is more than clear if you go trough the sources and read carefully - the dance in the fire aims to purify the dancer and to deliver from sin all the nestinars. Note that Nestinar is not just the one dancing in the fire, but all the people involved in the various rituals of the nestinars. The article misleadingly prompts that Nestinarstvo is the sole dancing in fire, while actually the fire dancing is just one of the various rituals the nestinars have. I would rather have them described as a christian sect that performs the ritual of fire dancing along with many other rituals, although it obviously has pagan origins. WP:FORK edit

This article is a fork of Anastenaria, the English (from Greek Αναστενάρια) name for the same firewalking ritual dance. Clearly we must merge the two articles. I'll see what I can do. Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:33, 29 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
