Is Neon Indian a band or a "one-man" project with supporting musicians?

It may be semantics, but I would suggest Neon Indian are a band...they are a band in the same sense that Nine Inch Nails, Sun Kil Moon, Panda Bear, T.Rex, Burzum, Bon Iver, The The, Passion Pit, Leviathan, Tame Impala, M, Antony and the Johnsons, Washed Out, LCD Soundsystem, Iron and Wine, etc. are considered bands even though it's one person with our without supporting musicians. Ditto for Foo Fighters up to and including their debut album.Greg Fasolino (talk) 15:17, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Don't know about the others, but Burzum, Panda Bear, and Washed Out are certainly not considered "bands". Sometimes you'll have a group of musicians who depend on one person for material (The Mothers of Invention, Electric Light Orchestra, the High Llamas), but that's completely different from somebody who enlists session players to play on the albums (or tours) and then issues the records under an alias (or "project" name).--Ilovetopaint (talk) 17:00, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

They are considered bands in common parlance, as in, a modern musical project consisting of any number of musicians, as opposed to an older definition of an ensemble, which is why Wiki lists them as bands on those pages. If there's only one main member, it's still considered a "band" unless the person's name is one and the same as the project. For what it's worth, the High Llamas are no different as it is indeed just Sean O'Hagan alone on most of the recordings, and hired musicians. Greg Fasolino (talk) 22:14, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Solo project

Having worked on and recently published World of Hassle, I've learned more than the nothing I already knew about Neon Indian, and it appears to me that this is and has always been a solo project of Palomo under an alias and with a live band. There are countless examples of this in music, especially in the last 20 years in indie music. It appears to me that everything in this article already reads as if this is the case except for the lead and infobox, but I think those are easy fixes. But I'd rather not make any big changes like that without establishing consensus first. So how about it? QuietHere (talk | contributions) 21:55, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
