Talk:Neocatastrophism

A couple of questions edit

1. By a look at sources, the term seems to be used in the meaning indicated by the article mostly, if not only, by Vukotic and Cirkovic. Are there occurrences of the term by independent researchers as an established term in this respect? There are other occurrences of the term "neocatastrophism" but they seem to be related to earthquakes and archaeology, see here for example. In any case, we probably need to disambiguate.

Yes I agree. I did a little checking and it appears that neocatastrophism is almost always used in the context of geology. In particular, it originated with Otto H. Schindewolf in 1962.–RJH (talk) 00:16, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

2. In the meaning described by the article, could a merge with Rare Earth hypothesis make sense? It seems to me there is significant overlap between the concepts. --Cyclopiatalk 15:36, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

3. If this was such a significant catastrophic event, then why are WE here? I'll take my answer off the air...(so to speak)212.149.205.113 (talk) 19:41, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

We're not here to debate the subject, but the article. --Cyclopiatalk 00:04, 19 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, it is a somewhat valid point in that the event must allow for some rate of survival. Otherwise we wouldn't be here talking about it.—RJH (talk) 00:19, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Catastrophic geologic events? edit

Apart from cosmic collisions, there seems to be quite a bit of writing on new catastrophism being reintroduced to interpretations of geology and paleontology by Derek Ager and others... from what I understand these new views now dominate current geological thinking, yet there doesn't seem to be much mention of it either here or in the uniformitarinism articles. 72.95.92.54 (talk) 03:20, 10 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
