Re. query on reference, I think you might have misread this. The link is here.[1] It is to a stored version of an article which appeared in The Independent (London) on March 2, 1995 by Lesley Gerard. The article is called "Why top dons are the business". I have not linked to the beginning of the article (which is on the previous page) but to the page with the relevant section, which says in the second paragraph:
- Last December the University of Portsmouth accepted the resignation of its vice-chancellor, Neil Merritt, after he had admitted to submitting inaccurate claims for expenses incurred on overseas business. Professor Merritt combined his academic post with the chairmanship of Hillingdon Hospital Trust, drove a Jaguar and earned pounds 90,000 a year; he resigned following a campaign by unions and a poll in which almost 93 per cent of 1,380 staff balloted said they had no confidence in him.
This is unambiguous and was published in a leading national UK newspaper, which is an acceptable source for verification. It is obviously a significant eventuality in Neil Merritt's life and it would be misleading not to include it. Tyrenius 17:37, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Updated the circumstances surrounding Merritt's resignation, which had been deleted. My edit was deleted without any reason stated, despite it being referenced. Reinstated it and added Tyrenius' reference (above), too. NB They are the only two references on the entire page - if you have a problem with them or the content they relate to discuss them on this page before deleting them!JezGrove (talk) 14:40, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Committees edit
I notice my text "served on committees" was changed back to "was asked to serve on committees". Presumably, as he is shown as member/chairman etc, he did actually serve. To say he was asked, implies he might not actually have done so (i.e. declined the invitation). Tyrenius 17:42, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
