The real reason NASCAR left this track is that it was controlled by the Fair Board, which was in that era a dumping ground for the most corrupt and disreputable supporters of whoever was mayor at the time, and they had to be bought off to get anything approved at the Fairgrounds, including a racing contract. By 1984, NASCAR was a big-time enough operation with lots of racing venues clamoring for it to come to their track and no need to deal with these small-time crooks.
Also, the Fair Board had a policy of not allowing any lease terms over five years, meaning that no operator could make serious, long-term investment in the facility since if they were to do so, they might not get the lease in the future and would lose that investment. 72.106.155.46 (talk) 10:38, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
