Talk:Naked Capitalism

Hang on edit

My gut reaction to seeing this was to label it with A7 too, but a cursory Google search reveals that it's fairly well known, even mentioned in a few Huffington Post articles. I think an AFD would be more appropriate to fully explore the extent of this article's significance. AP1787 (talk) 00:34, 4 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Removed speedy deletion edit

I removed the speedy delietion tag—Naked Capitalism is the fifth most visited finance blog: If that doesn't make it noteworthy, I don't know what does. To top it off, Yves Smith's just-published book, Econned is currently #30 on Amazon's list of economic books. [1]

Gongol.com ranking edit

As of 2014, Gongol.com no long updates its ranking of business and economic websites.

But when it did, prior to 2012, it was generally acknowledged to be authoritative.

Hence maintaining the reference.

Do not speedy edit

Do not speedy delete this article. There are plenty of sources to back it up. I added one, there is more to come when I have time to add. Trackinfo (talk) 17:16, 29 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • You can remove the tag... and thus speedy deletion is removed. I will then nominate it for formal deletion, on the basis that it is not notable enough to be included in Wikipeida; at best this entry will be a stub subject to deletion; If a stub has little verifiable information, or if its subject has no apparent notability, it may be deleted or be merged into another relevant article.--Lfrankbalm (talk) 23:33, 29 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
I will suggest you don't waste your time trying to delete the article, as you see below there are several people stating the case of the significance of this blog. I added sources from several major reliable sources including the Huffington Post, Bloomberg, New York Times, Bill Moyers . . . it already clearly meets WP:GNG. What is needed is further expansion as stated below. I would hope some of those more knowledgeable people would expand the article specifying some of the complex stories explained and revealed by this blog. I believe a good case could be made for an article about Yves Smith/Susan Webber as an individual, because she has written books, articles and has been interviewed as an expert in numerous locations outside of the blog, but as of now her names redirect to this article. That article could also explain her pen name better sourced from the first Shearer interview. As a wikipedia principle, at the time the tag was placed there was a reasonable case that could be made for this article to be deleted (not speedy, follow the normal AfD process) because it had only one self generated source. Speedy should be reserved for articles with serious credibility or inflammatory content (quickly remove bullshit). If you follow simple WP:BEFORE you would know this was a subject of significance. By the time I left the above message, I had already added several reliable sources and your case for deletion should end. Trackinfo (talk) 16:36, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Naked Capitalism, An Invaluable Source edit

As admin of the Seniors for a Democratic Society Facebook page and blog, I find Naked Capitalism an indispensable source of information. I use Wikipedia, Wikimedia, and others on a regular basis, but I use Naked Capitalism on a daily basis for links and information to aid in the dissemination of information not generally available in the neutered mainstream press. There is no other source with such an important collection of this kind of news. —www.facebook.com/pages/Seniors-for-a-Democratic-Society 67.79.198.218 (talk) 13:00, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Naked Capitalism: web rankings edit

  1. 17 on Time's 2011 list of Top 25 Economics Blogs:

http://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/completelist/0,29569,2057116,00.html

  1. 9 in Onalytica's 2103 ranking of top 200 economics blogs:

http://www.onalytica.com/blog/posts/top-200-influential-economics-blogs-aug-2013

As of today, "Conscience of a Liberal" (that's Paul Krugman's economics blog at nytimes.com) gets 290,000 hits on Google; "naked capitalism" gets 586,000.

This is a *very* important and influential economics blog. However it does need a more substantive Wikipedia entry. I am sure same will soon be provided. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.68.248.111 (talk) 14:02, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Susan Webber redirect edit

A Susan Webber is a member of the Montana Legislature. (http://leg.mt.gov/css/Sessions/64th/leg_info.asp?HouseID=1&SessionID=109&LAWSID=16526). I think it is apporpriate to reconsider the redirect that currently exists from Susan Webber to this page. Enos733 (talk) 22:53, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Comments disabled on 17 August 2017 edit

Some three weeks after this announcement, the disabling of comments in mid-August 2017 looks like it may turn out to be a watershed event in the history of this blog. For the convenience of future contributors I'm preserving here the announcement from 'Yves Smith': "The caliber of discourse has degenerated utterly at NC in the wake of Charlotteville. I am disabling comments on all live posts. I am sick, now up until 9 AM ruining my health. I do not need this bullshit. It is not worth the effort to clean up the disinformation and the upset and dishonest argumentation. I have really had it. I’m not getting any posts done and that is far more important than riding herd on out of control comments.

"I am also truly appalled by what some of you have said. This has brought out the worst in a lot of people. I have never had to blacklist and moderate so many people in such a short period of time.

"You guys managed to ruin a great comments section. Well done."

Predictable social media outlet edit

The August 17th 2017 announcement was part of programmed effort to sensationalize and broadcast a preemptive security operation to distract and focus public attention on identity issues. This social media outlet - along with most if not all similar social media - supplied coverage to an event that can only be described as a bizarre but carefully coordinated psyop to arouse the public - with intense efforts to get people to participate or consider race and identity.

Intense efforts at publicity preceded the event mostly through social media. The public was urged to buy into a framed political history that suddenly needed to be discredited, a simple narration followed that conveniently formed opposing sides to a spontaneous issue and an actual date of a "showdown" in the summer. Note that this episode had nothing to do with racism, but was a carefully developed project that staged a wide open opportunity for racist behavior from the targeted participants - which included most of the public who may have been paying attention. Ultimately "Charlottesville" had a new page in history written for it - dramatic scenes involving actual loss of life.

Naked Capitalism simply levered an opportunity for shameless self promotion, the idea being that everyone might be racist, especially people who post on this self-aggrandized low information outlet.

This episode of drama clearly shows how ridiculous fiction remains popular with a credulous public. Note that if you're paying attention to Naked Capitalism (period) then they are achieving their goals.

Followed on 13 September 2017 by this announcemeent on the re-opening of Comments:

"We are reopening comments today. As we discuss in more detail below, we have made some changes that we hope will allow the comments section to operate once more as it has in better times in the past: as a place for members of the NC community to debate important topics, question the validity of information and analysis, add to or as needed challenge posts, and for Links and Water Cooler, bring up research or news stories that have escaped our view." Much more follows on the link below:

Naked Capitalism edit

Is a consultancy effort apparently of "Aurora Advisors" and Susan Webber. Contracted by the US Government and law enforcement and private industry, including banks and other information firms to distribute favorable US (State) propaganda with disinformation, surveilliance and or intelligence interests. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.153.152.32 (talk) 02:59, 30 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
