As mentioned on the Simulated annealing page, SA is guarenteed to actually reach a global optimum eventually. At the bottom of this page the opposite is stated. I was led to believe that it just takes far longer than is useful for guarenteed global optimum. I'm not changing this myself, since I'm not an expert and I don't know this to be true for sure. I'll leave the edit to an expert.

Also, I think this page could benefit from a simple example problem. The standard form of an optimization problem is pretty meaningless to those who don't know much about it without an example of what f, X, etc. mean. Thoughts? - EndingPop 05:28, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I don't know enough about SA either. Maybe we can convince someone from the SA page to come over here. I highly doubt that it is "guaranteed" to find the global optimum of any problem... every optimization method fails to find the optimum for some problem or other, and it would be a big deal if SA transcended that; I would have heard. Maybe it works in convex problems, or smooth problems, or something, but not any problem whatsoever. I agree with you about the example. As I mentioned in the first paragraph, it's mostly been used in aero/astro. That's where a lot of the community is, anyway. Feel free to put it in whatever cat you think may be appropriate. moink 01:16, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pareto Front edit

There's a link for Pareto front to Vilfredo Pareto, but there's no explanation on the page for what a Pareto front is. I'd add it, but I don't know what it means. - Kjm 23:39, 30 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ahhh, Pareto front redirects to Vilfredo Pareto, instead of Pareto efficiency which is where Pareto optimality redirects. I shall fix the redirect, and bypass the redirect in this article. moink 01:17, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Minor Optimization Methods edit

Some authors of the papers edit these important pages of wikipedia and put their recent methods which are not verified in the literature in these article. For example someone has put his algorithm called cuckoo in all the pages about optimization and evolutionary computation. I think wikipedia is not a tool for advertising methods and doing science marketing. If we are going to list some minor algorithms like these algorithm in the list of important optimization methods, this list should include more that 100 algorithms.
