List of Mukherjees edit

The list of people with surname Mukherjee seems entirely redundant here, and in fact undesirable for. Some of the names mentioned are not even public figures of any notable fame. What should be the criteria for including a name in the list. Also the format of the list makes it quite unreadable.

A common criterion is that they have Wikipedia articles. I have removed all the redlinks, most of which were not even formatted correctly.--Shantavira|feed me 09:13, 26 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Will someone please add my favorite : Madhusree Mukerjee, author of "Churchill's Secret War" about the Bengal Famine of the 40s. She has a brief article on Wikipedia. Thanks.Tofindya (talk) 00:31, 30 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Origin of the name Mukherjee edit

Mukherjee may be anglicized, but it is not an anglicization of a Prakrit form as wrongly claimed. This has been removed. The anglicization possibly happened in 17th or 18th century and at this point the Bengali language was already in its highly evolved late-middle phase. Also, whether Mukhujye as the colloquial form of the name (rather than Prakrit) was the origin of Mukherjee is debatable.

  • Oppose. These are the common forms of these names seen in English-language sources, per WP:COMMONNAME. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:11, 4 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Comment. According to the article, the government-preferred form is -padhyay. Is there any source on this? 147.144.162.47 (talk) 02:34, 5 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
    It's also completely irrelevant what the "government-preferred" form is! -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:39, 9 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
