Merging landmarks and sightseeing

Why do we have 2 separate sections? Shouldn't we only have one? After all, most of what is written on the Sightseeing section is a landmark... RUL3R (talk) 21:20, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Illiteracy vs Literacy?

I noticed this in the education section:

"Monterrey has an estimated 3.7% rate of illiteracy. In 2005, from an estimated 983,359 inhabitants above 6 years of age, 36,689 were illiterate."

Most other articles on countries and cities that I've seen show the rate in positive terms of literacy, even if the literacy rate is low (compared to developed countries). So Monterrey would have 96.3% literacy. Is there a reason why this article shows it from a negative light?

You can fix it if you feel there's a negative light to it. Just make sure the source supports the update you are going to make. Cheers, ComputerJA (talk) 03:24, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Source of growth in Monterrey

Im from that city and reckon that the establishment of the Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma Brewery was the driver of growth in this city. It produced by-side businesses such as Vitro, Famosa, Titan, Hylsa, Alfa, Fundidora (co-founded by Isaac Garza, firstly co-founder of Cuauhtemoc Motezuma) among others. I truly think the last sentence in the intro should be revised. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.245.85.146 (talk) 05:54, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Americanize many Mexicans but also parts of Mexico - a fair deal!

We will have to kill for it, but nowadays we don't fight neighbors so Monterrey is lost for ever (until the Sun melts the Earth). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:2149:821A:3100:DB6:A5BF:2106:E49E (talk) 13:29, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Missing Section on Demographics

Hi. I noticed that in this section, it does not reference "Ethnicity" nor "Language" as part of the demographics for the city of Monterrey.--CTP4201 (talk) 18:17, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Missing Section on Economy

Hi. I noticed that in this section, it does not include international efforts such as Korea as a source for the city's economic wealth. Work needed here

This article's detailed and unrelenting positivity makes it read more like a Chamber of Commerce boast than an encyclopedia. It also needs some copy editing. I'll put it on my list, but if you get to it first, go for it. Dgndenver (talk) 02:32, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

It Happened In Monterey - Song

Hi, I wonder of there should be a mention of the famous Frank Sinatra song "It Happened In Monterey" "in old Mexico". Certainly about this city, and certainly the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the name.

Remember to sign your posts. — LlywelynII 07:03, 12 November 2022 (UTC)

Like the guy above

It's simply wrong to pretend that there is a hard and fast distinction between the Mexican Spanish-named city of Monterrey and the American Spanish-named city of Monterey. It's exactly the same name and this Mexican city has been and still is called Monterey all the time. There should be a name section about when the double-R became official, about any distinction in the pronunciation, and still saying that it has historically and still does occassionally appear as "Monterey". — LlywelynII 07:03, 12 November 2022 (UTC)

Where in the article do you see any pretense regarding that distinction? The single-r version appears nowhere in the article except in a hatnote.
In Spanish (at least in some major dialects), initial 'r' is pronounced the same way 'rr' is: as a trill, in contrast with the flap represented by 'r' in other positions in a word. By convention, the doubling of an initial 'r' when the word becomes the second part of a compound is typical as a way of preserving the representation of the trill now that it's no longer initial. The same happens when deriving 'puertorriqueño' from 'Puerto Rico' and 'costarricense' from 'Costa Rica'.
Your question about "when" implies that the spelling was originally 'Monterey' and that the double-'r' "became" official on some particular day. I don't see any reason to believe it worked that way. Largoplazo (talk) 12:08, 12 November 2022 (UTC)
