Where is/was Wendell College?

I can't find any mention of Wendell College online, except in connection with Sone. Did it close or change its name? She says it's in Southern Indiana on the Ohio River, and that it's a Presbyterian school. This is baffling to me. All her biographers refer to the school, but I haven't found anyone who explains why I can't find out anything about it. Help! Aristophanes68 (talk) 15:16, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

• Update: I'm starting to believe that Wendell College is actually a reference to Hanover College, where Sone received her degree. Hanover fits the physical description of the school in the novel: small, Presbyterian, on the Ohio River. Aristophanes68 (talk) 16:13, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks to User:Drsq for the updated information. I removed one sentence concerning Monica's realization of "how American she was" because the description was unsourced, and in an inappropriate narrative tone. I am not sure that the Wolfgang Hampel references are proper sources, and may need to be bolstered or removed. I'm also not clear now on whether "Nisei Daughter" is autobiographical or not. If it is then it should say so. If it is not then its description shouldn't be in the first person ("Sone's parents were Japanese" vs. "The childrens' parents were Japanese"). Also somewhere in the editing process, the properly-arranged reflist template fell out and I'm trying to restore that and get it working again. I took out the Wolfgang Hampel fan site refs as unreliable sources. I left in the mention of the time spent with Betty MacDonald (despite the lack of citation) because it is a bit interesting, and not really controversial. I took out the sentence about "award-winning Wolfgang Hampel" inasmuch as what little I can find about Wolfgang Hampel suggests that the "award" was one bestowed upon him by the Betty MacDonald Fan Club for his work in putting together a DVD that the fansite then published. If I'm misunderstanding all this and it's something else, feel free to restore it - but if you do please provide 3d party sources that describes the award Hampel won, and which lends at least the color of notability to the material he produced. Wolfgang Hampel redux

The material re certain interviews by the "award-winning" Wolfgang Hampel is not appropriately added to the article without citation to some reliable, third party source that indicates that 1) the interviews were significant and 2) not simply a self-published undertaking by one of the Betty MacDonald fan clubs. Just a little bit more background for clarity and for the benefit of other editors who may happen by: Wolfgang Hampel founded The Betty MacDonald Fan Club, which produced the DVD containing the interviews. See http://wolfganghampel.blogspot.com/2012/08/wolfgang-hampels-betty-macdonald-house.html. Hampel's "award" is evidently the "Betty MacDonald Memorial Award", which appears to have been bestowed by a group of "international collectors", see http://bettymacdonaldfanclub.blogspot.com/2009/11/first-betty-macdonald-memorial-award.html. I have been unable to find any reference to this award, or to Hampel, or to this DVD, other than throughout these and a multiplicity of related fan sites also founded by Hampel (sample list here).
