A snowy night in Mist edit

- No, it's not a joke. Either it's your monitor or you're exaggerating. Please note that it was taken at night, so it will be dark. But it's not too dark, you can even discern distant trees far in the fog. Did you view the high-res version? Panoramas are huge in nature so, dark or not, they have minimal visual value as thumbnails and so are screaming to be clicked on. It could also be your monitor, I once viewed this on an old monitor (I'm talking 1993 CRT) and it didn't look to good.
- Concerning the date, I've been taught that the style which I wrote it is called European style, and it's MLA standard, and also it seems to be the convention on Wikipedia.

- Hi Ben, sorry I deleted your image, I didn't hear back from you and since you are a fairly new editor, I had no basis for deciding if you were joking or not. Have you heard of the joke image "White cow in a snowstorm?" Well, "A snowy night in mist" could be a similar joke. Now, I may have been flippant, but why would I exaggerate? Seriously, when I look at this image, all I see is three small orange rectangles to the left, and rest of the image is black. The high-res version is not much better. I did read the caption. I understand that this photo was taken at night, and that nights are usually dark, at least at our latitude. I have my brightness and contrast turned all the way up though, so I'll assume it's my monitor and not your image that is too dark. You might want to think about adding an image to the article illustrating Mist in a manner that is accessible to all users, though, regardless of monitor resolution.
- Actually, if you look at WP:DATE, there is no stated convention on date format, and the guideline uses both mm/dd and dd/mm as possibilites. I do know, however, that when choosing spelling, in American articles one goes with American English, and I believe the date should reflect this as well--the common American usage. I dig the MLA Handbook too, but most people haven't read it, and we are writing an encyclopedia article, not an academic essay. So I'm putting it back. I did wikify the date, which allows users who have set their date preferences to see the date in the style they have chosen. If you still disagree, we can ask about the issue at the village pump. - Since Mist is a very Scenic place, I would like to add maybe one more panorama, but right now I'm completely reworking how I make them and until that's finished (January, I think) I'm not making any. I have many more but most really suck and only this one is in my opinion worthy. I live 3 miles west of Mist, by the way.

- You're welcome, and hey, I just wanted to let you know that I just changed the settings on my monitor at work, and now I can see your image. Very nice! Since you live near there, if you could get your hands on any of the history of the store that could be cited in the article, say a newspaper article or something, that would great. - I'm afraid I heard it by word of mouth. I heard it on TV once too a while ago, on OPB, but I can't remotely remember what program it was. Could've been Oregon Field Guide, but "could've been" is insufficient. I can't find any document, online or otherwise, that states it.

Population edit
Populations are often given in Wikipedia articles for unincorporated Census Designated Places (CDP). Is there any population figure for Mist? Or is it not a CDP? 66.234.220.195 (talk) 15:30, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- If it were a CDP, it would already have an article, since these were produced by User:Rambot in 2002. Maybe it is part of another CDP in Oregon? Sometimes people are able to cite population figures for individual unincorporated communities, but I'm not sure where they find those. You might ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Oregon.
