Southern rock? edit

How can they be southern rock when they are from Long island? Arthurian Legend (talk) 18:55, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Southern Rock is a genera of music, it isn't defined by the location it is recorded in. One could record a song in Sweden, and as long as it has the familiar blend of country and rock, it can be classified as Southern Rock. Snagglepuss (talk) 23:18, 14 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Some band covered 'Mississippi Queen' live. They blew a fuse or something & the power went partly out. There was only the singer's mike, the drums, & maybe the bass, but they finished the song. I remember hearing it about 1986 or so, though it might have been a number of years old by then. It was a powerful version. They had a name like The Reactionaries or The Primitives, or something like that.

Ozzy Osbourne also covered this song on the album released in 2005, as far as I can remember. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.197.233.65 (talk) 18:23, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Who wrote this song? edit

Corky remembers it one way; David Rea another. David is not even mentioned in the body of this article, but is listed in the credits in the summary box at the right, and is listed at ACE. He remembers the writing this way:

on the creation of "Mississippi Queen"...

"Mississippi Queen was written by Corky Laing and David Rea in a rehearsal studio NYC 10th Ave &36 th St. circa 1969. Corky asked me if I knew any towns in Mississippi and I mentioned Vicksburg. When we worked on it, Corky said he had put the concept forward to Felix and Leslie and they refused it. Corky took our version to Leslie and Felix ...after a few minor lyric changes and Leslie adding the signature lick, that was the way the song came about".

The above comes from a Felix Pappalardi tribute site and can be found here: http://www.pappalardi.com/DavidRea.html . It's also what he told me on the phone in 2011, but I did not record the call nor write it down word for word (he passed away in late October of that year). Since nobody seems to care, I went ahead and updated the article to also include David Rea's recollection of how the song was written and who wrote it. Vlmagee (talk) 00:41, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
