Incorrect Spelling...?

According to the website of the Monastery, the correct spelling is "Mindrolling" -- pronunciation is the same, but the spelling has two "L"s.

What is the difference, and if the majority of mentions of the monastery are spelled with two "L"s, why not here? What does "Simple" mean in the description of alternate spellings?

Mindrolling Monastery

Mindrolling is one of the largest Buddhist Center in India today. Situated in the foothills of Himalayas in Dehradun under Uttarkhand state in Northern India. The monastery is a Charitable Society registered in India under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 as Nyingmapa Mahabodhi Charitable Society. The monastery provides free food, accommodation, clothing, medical care and education including free textbooks and stationary to over 300 monks. The sole source of income is the voluntary donations.

Following are the list of Mindrolling Monasteries or centers around the world.

Ngedon Gatsal Ling Ngedon Gatsal Ling is the main monastery and practice center. The daily prayers and the annual Drubchens( Mahasadhana) are performed here. Monks learn and practice rituals, mandala drawing, lama dance and playing of ritual instruments. They can also choose to study thanka painting and sculpting.

Primary and Secondary Buddhist School The primary and secondary has eight levels where the monks study Recitation, Calligraphy, Grammar, Poetry, Philosophy and English. On the completion of the eight level, monks can join Ngagyur Nyingma College or they can choose to continue to practice in main monastery.

Drubde Odsal Ling Drubde Odsal Ling is the retreat center. Here monks undertake closed retreat of variuos lengths including 3 years/3 months depending upon individual interest. Before entering into retreat, monks are given teachings and proper guidance. They also receive profound and advanced Buddhist meditation instruction from the Rinpoches.

World Peace Stupa The 185 feet tall and 100 square feet wide World Peace Stupa was built on 29th April,2000. The façade of the main stupa contain a magnificient relief of the Future Buddha, The Maitreya. Descending from the tri-coloured steps, representing lapis lazuli, gold and silver, of the stupa is Buddha Shakyamuni. The main stupa has five main shrine rooms. The ground floor level’s shrine is of Guru Padmasambhava and the wall are painted with the glorious life-story of Guru Padmasambhava in accordance with the terma or Ogyen Terma Lingpa, which consists of one hundred and eight chapters. Also included are the paintings of the Seven Chapter Supplication, the supplication for Clearing the Obstacles to the Path, The Outer, Inner and Secret Assembly of Heart Essence of Vidhyadharas, The short description of the past lives of Terdak Lingpa, the one hundred and eight Mahasiddhas of India, the Twenty Five main disciples of Padmasambhava, the One Hundred and Eight Great Treasure Masters, the Eight Great Chariot of the Practice Lineage and the Dharmapalas who protect the Dharma

The First Floor shrine room is dedicated to Buddha Shakyamuni Buddha. The murals on the walls depict the Jataka tales according to the text Wish-fulfilling Tree written by the Dharma King Kshemendra. The 16 Great Arhat, the seven entrusted with the teachings, the 17 Panditas of Nalanda, India, are shown on the pillars.

The Second floor shrine room contains the statues of the descendents of Terdag Lingpa, the great throne holders ( Khris-chen) and the lineage of supreme abbot (mkhan-chen). A magnificient three dimensional mandala of the Union of the Oral Lineage Transmission and the treasure teachings, based on Lochen Zhi-khro, is built in the centerof the shrine. In addition to these, there are paintings of the previous lineage masters of Pratimoksha, Bodhisattvayana and Vajrayana.

In the vase enclosure of the stupa are the images of thousand Buddhas of the Good Aeon. In it are the statues of the field of accumulation that embodies the entire qualities of the three secrets of all the victorious Sugatas, based on Ati Zab-don snying-po, the extraordinary tradition revealed by Terdag Lingpa.

The shrine room above the vase contains the statues of the five families of Buddha, along with Buddha Amitabha. The walls are painted with a depiction of twelve teachers of Dzogchen Lineage. The life-force tree is shown in accordance with the mandala and the stupa ritual of the Two Aspects of Stainlessness. The upper and lower end of the Life-force tree is annointed with saffron water, and it is covered with silk. There are over one hundred and eleven extremely secret Dharanis. Alphabets and the mantra of the Essence od Dependent Origin are also found with them.

The neck of the stupa lies above the vase and below the 13 golden tapering wheels of Dharma. It is filled with the texts of Buddhist canon as well as earlier and later version of commentaries translated into Tibetan. It also includes the works of the famous Six Ornaments and Two Supreme Ones. Also included are a number of tsa-tsa built according to the ritual of Drimed Namnyi. Additionally, there are gold and copper statue of Buddha Amitabha,silver statue of Vajrasattva, brass statue of Green Tara and Buddha Shakyamuni, Phurpa of Nyang-gter, a holy brass statue of Java Shakyamuni presented by Dzongsar Khentse Rinpoche.

Relics of four different types are also kept there, namely the relics of the Dharmakaya, relics of Buddha Kashyapa, relics of the cremated bodies of holy saints, relics of the saints robes and relics resembling mustard seed. Furthermore, a stupa also houses a collection of numerous other spiritual objects of spontaneous origin, as well as various indisputably holy substance that were passed down from reliable sources.

Mindrolling Centers There are various other Mindrolling centers. A retreat center and monastery of Mindrolling is in Kalimpong in Eastern India.
