The mim in the mimated noun is a prefix not a suffix. This is also characteristic of Maltese, which is a Semitic language, even though it has a superstructure which is Romance, and lately English. Examples of mimated nouns would be: manżil a house or lodging; from nażala to alight; maġlis a council from ġalasa to sit; maxriq East; from xaraqa to rise; magħrib West from għaraba; masġid mosque; from saġada to prostrate oneself; makħżin a store from kħażana to store.

very occasionally, especially from roots with intiaial waw or ya, we fid the form mifgħaal, which, is the form of the Noun of Instrument, e.g. miilaad birth from walada to give birth to; fro the dervied verbs, the passive parctiple takes the place of the Noun of Place and Time; e.g. musalla place of prayer from salla to pray; multaqaan a meeting place from iltaqaa to meet.

Under this title we also find the noun of instrument. This describes the instrument with which the action of the verb is carried out. It resemble the Noun of Place and Time, beginning with the mimm, but this letter is vowelled with kasra instead of fatħa. e.g. miftaaħ a key from fataha to pen; miiżaan balance, scales from ważana to weigh; miknasatun from kanaza; mirwaħa from raaħa; mibrad a file from barada; miqass from qassa to cut; mikwaan, iron from kawaa to iron.
