Microsoft Defender apps? edit
Defender is apparently now a suite of paid apps (as part of Microsoft 365) including for Apple iOS and Google Android? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/microsoft-defender-for-individuals I do not see this mentioned in the article currently. - Indefensible (talk) 22:45, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

Microsoft Defender → Windows Security – The 'Microsoft Defender' name is now being used by Microsoft for their new commercial, multi-platform antivirus solution, and they have started to officially refer to the antivirus component built into Windows as 'Windows Security' (as can be seen at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-defender-for-individuals for example). The firewall component and definition updates are still labelled as Microsoft Defender though, so it would be best to see what the WP community thinks. - Oppose. This nomination is flawed. The link that the nominator has provided does support it either. "Microsoft Defender", "Microsoft Defender Antivirus", and "Windows Security" are three different things that operate independent of each other.
- Microsoft Defender Antivirus (MSDA) is a built-in antivirus software shipped with Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2022.
- Microsoft Defender (MSD) is not even included with Windows. You have to obtain its client app from Microsoft Store. It won't work without a Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Windows Security is one of the fives ways to manage the Defender Antivirus as well as other security-related aspects of Windows. (The other ways include, the
ConfigDefendermodule of PowerShell, Windows Admin Center, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Defender.) Those who work with Windows Server 2022 know that MSDA and Windows Security can be installed independently.
- As it is, the title of this article is flawed. It must be 'Microsoft Defender Antivirus. As I explained, Microsoft Defender is an entirely different thing. 85.239.218.173 (talk) 00:45, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Microsoft Defender → Microsoft Defender Antivirus – Since my last move request, I now too believe that 'Microsoft Defender Antivirus' would be a better name for the article, since that is its more common name. As it was historically a simple anti-spyware solution and has grown over time, I can imagine a layout in which the anti-virus/spyware component is the main focus of the article, with some information on the new Windows Security app being included somewhere in the middle (sort of like it is now).
However, I do not believe that the anti-virus component and the new multi-platform security solution can be fully written about in the same article without it becoming cluttered and confusing, which is why I still believe that this article should be renamed and the new multi-platform Microsoft Defender should receive its own article, even if that would only be small in size. - Support. The current name is the wrong and misleading name. The proposed name is the right name. I always thought the most common name is Windows Defender, but I trust the nominator has done his homework.
