Talk:Michigan Maritime Museum

development edit

User:Bigturtle, thank you for creating this article. I came here amidst developing List of museum ships (or maybe List of museum ships in the United States will have been split out), which currently separately itemizes Wilhelm Baum but not other ships and boats at the Michigan Maritime Museum. The list-article does not itemize replica ships like the Friends Good Will. It's not clear yet whether the list-article should itemize possibly-less-important Evelyn S. and the smaller ships/boats such as the 26' and 36' rescue boats inside the museum. But it does at least link to this Michigan Maritime Museum article.

I have expanded this article, including to add photos in a Gallery, and to drop the pretty-useless-in-my-view sign of just the museum's name in big lettering on the side of a museum building (which was coming in from a Wikidata link). It could use improvements, including replacement of one informal photo caption "some kind of boat in front of the Padnos Boat Shed" (Bigturtle, do you possibly know what that boat is?). Also I included a photo of "out front" which shows one boat and some parking and one or more of the buildings from the street; it would be great to have a better view of the museum as a whole from the street or otherwise. Bigturtle, are you by any chance nearby or otherwise able to get more photos? Anyhow, I am glad to learn about this nice museum and am inclined to try to visit sometime in the future. --Doncram (talk, contribs) 21:26, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Doncram,
I have strong family connections to South Haven, Michigan, but live c290 miles away and do not get back all that often to take pictures! Your article rewrite/additions are excellent. I hope a third party can step in and move the article out of the Stub category to "Start." Bigturtle (talk) 22:19, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

French version edit

By the way there is a French-language wikipedia version at here, which was mainly edited by User:Raphodon ( https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilisateur:Raphodon (merci!). I see it already used a gallery of photos like what I've added here, and it is nice in other ways. --Doncram (talk, contribs) 21:36, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
