Was Wilding bisexual?
editAccording to Hadleigh Boze, author of "Hollywood Gays", Wilding was rumored to be bisexual. In fact, noted Hollywood gossip columnist Hedda Hoppa (who known to be homophobic) advised Elizabeth Taylor against marrying Wilding because he was "queer." Any more evidence to these allegations? 76.124.117.121 (talk) 18:09, 12 March 2008 (UTC)buddmar
There is no substance to the allegation. David Niven in " Bring on the Empty Horses " ( Marulto AG 1975 ) talks of the Hedda Hopper incident and notes that Hopper had to settle out of court after being sued by Wilding for her published remarks. Niven also mentions Wilding's longstanding friendship with Stewart Granger and their yacht in the south of France, quote " it's a miracle the population of France didn't double " ( page 33 ). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.237.183.233 (talk) 23:07, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- It is well known that Wilding was bisexual (all of Elizabeth Taylor's husbands were bisexual (with the exception of the truck driver Fortensky), as was her father). As for Niven, why do you think he denied that Wilding was bisexual??? LOL. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.105.37.38 (talk) 00:26, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- 88.105.37.38: You seem to be interested in adding more persons to the list of bisexual people. I can understand how a minority finds comfort in becoming less of a minority. However, there are certain criteria for becoming an effective Wikipedia editor. For example, facts need to be backed with sources. Therefore, what you seem to believe is common knowledge won't be acceptable on Wikipedia. Here are some WP pages created for newbie learning:

Michael Wilding (actor) → Michael Wilding – Clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Receives 99% of the pageviews compared to Michael Wilding (writer), a page that is viewed about as much as the Michael Wilding disambiguation page. Nohomersryan (talk) 23:09, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nomination. No need for the disambiguation page per WP:ONEOTHER. A hatnote pointing to the academic would be sufficient. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 06:09, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Brighton
editAccording to an article I've just been reading in the Telegraph, Michael Wilding ended his career as maitre d' of a restaurant in Brighton. Presumably in the 1960s when his film appearances became sparser. Paulturtle (talk) 01:36, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- According to the ODNB "He married again, in Las Vegas on 12 February 1958, the millionaires Susan Nell, who had been previously married three times (to Andre Simon, Roy Kellino, and Walter Nell). Wilding was becoming increasingly prone to blackouts, which had been affecting him since the mid-1930s. Convinced that his acting days were over, he began working for Jerry Hogan as a talent agent. Feeling miscast, Wilding nevertheless returned to Britain, where Susan Nell set him up as the host of her Brighton restaurant, the Three Little Wilding Rooms. However, he detested the work and the marriage quickly collapsed and they divorced in 1962." After that he married Margaret Leighton and largely devoted himself to supporting her career.
