It's hard to believe the name "R.E.M." (rapid eye movement) was picked naively out of a dictionary. The name choice is brilliant; the distinguishing characteristic of the band's song lyrics is that they resemble dream sequences. Medically, REM is the dream part of the sleep cycle.
