In the August 28, 2007, Wall Street Journal, commentator James Taranto argues that the alleged "outing" of Sen. Craig and calls of his hypocrisy appear to be fueling more anti-gay hysteria than understanding his predicament. "To single out those who are (gay) for special vituperation is itself a form of anti-gay prejudice. Liberals pride themselves on their compassion, but often are unwilling to extend it to those with whose politics they disagree.... But there is nothing hypocritical about someone who is homosexual, believes homosexuality is wrong, and keeps his homosexuality under wraps. To the contrary, he is acting consistent with his beliefs. If he has furtive encounters in men's rooms, that is an act of weakness, not hypocrisy."

The charge of hypocrisy has nothing to do with Craig 'keeping his homosexuality under wraps'. There are plenty of honorable gay people who choose not to disclose their homosexuality. Craig's hypocrisy is this: He condemns gay people in public, votes for legislation that is anti-gay, then has sex with other men. When someone CONDEMNS one thing in public, then DOES that same thing, it is the very definition of hypocrisy. Whether Craig believes his homosexuality is wrong, or weakness, is irrelevant. It is the proclaiming one thing (in Congress, no less!) then doing the opposite that leads to the hypocrisy charge. -William Malmstrom, Clearwater, FL 70.126.98.155 (talk) 15:47, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
