History edit

Before 1992, Meru District or Meru County, sometimes called "Greater Meru", covered approximately 13,000 km2 (5,000 sq mi), stretching from the Thuci river, on the border with Embu County in the south, to the border with Isiolo County in the north. In 1992 Greater Meru was broken up into Meru Central District (now in Meru County), Meru North District (now in Meru County), Meru South District ((Nithi), and Tharaka District. Later, a court decision and constitutional amendments broadly redefined Kenya's districts as counties, with some adjustments and mergers (see Sub-Counties of Kenya and Counties of Kenya). Meru Central District was moved here as Meru County. Tharaka District and Meru South District were combined into Tharaka-Nithi County. --Bejnar (talk) 22:13, 1 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
