Sentence fragment edit

Marketed by emphasizing the urbane jazz related Mello Yello.

That's a sentence fragment, but I don't really know what it's trying to say, so I can't fix it myself. Any ideas? – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 07:15, 14 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. The sentence still feels a bit alienated in its current position, but at least it conveys the general idea and is no longer a fragment. --Matt S. 23:52, 21 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Marketing edit

I have removed the following from the article:

In contrast to Mountain Dew's original hillbilly-themed advertising, Mello Yello's early marketing campaigns emphasized ties to a more urbane jazz culture.

The very first advertising campaign for Mello Yello was "The world's fastest soft drink," which I have added to the article. I didn't have time to learn how to do references, so if someone wants to add this, they can: http://www.burkhardworks.com/pullroots.htm#MELLOYELLO (link to advertising agency). I couldn't find anything on the web about the commercial I mentioned, but I remember it. I don't even know what the above "urbane jazz" reference is talking about. Did the contributor mean "urban jazz"? And if so, how was Mello Yello linked to it? If there really is something to that, it can be added back.--emw 16:56, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not really certain of the origin of it, myself. I know I've read it elsewhere before, but I can't remember where. Either way, what I think the fellow who originally inserted that was trying to convey was that the early Mello Yello advertising was supposed invoke an "urbane" ("notably polite or polished in manner" according to Webster), refined feel by associating itself with the city life, and jazz culture, as part of an effort to elevate itself above Mountain Dew's hillbilly advertising. However, if I'm not mistaken, I think Mountain Dew had already dropped that motif years before. If that's the case, it seems a bit moot. Oh well. Not my field of expertise. Hopefully that clarifies what was trying to be said with "urbane," though. --Matt S. 22:06, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

returned to Nz edit

It is available in NZ again. I am not sure how recent though. But it is fairly recent that they started selling limited edition mello yello.

Availability edit

I've always preffered Mello Yello over Mountain Dew, but it can be damn hard to find. Big chains like Publix and Target don't even carry it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.206.80.66 (talk) 22:36, 6 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

yeah you don't see it in California very often at all. --71.141.226.198 15:25, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
These were pretty popular (as in I seen them a lot, plus the sales were doing pretty good, in my area atleast) in Canada for a little while, but I'm pretty sure they got discontinued in mid-late 2006?CuffX 06:15, 16 June 2007

I think Coke has more or less replaced it with Vault. 24.178.211.155 22:55, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I can tell you from personal experience that Vault Is hard to find on the East cost. Mello yello runs wild. But i didnt even know that coke made a DIET mello yello. I emailed coke and they told me its only available on the west coast. and other selected states. i wonder how it taste's69.34.111.9 (talk) 07:37, 16 February 2009 (UTC)JonReply

Retro packaging launch in Australia for 2013 edit

"Lift" in Australia is being repackaged in retro style mello yello cans for 2013.

I even remember buying mello yello in the 1980's in Australia.

Variants edit

I'm sitting here drinking a Mello Yello Zero so there must be variants on the Mello Yello theme. Can we list them here and eventually get them listed in the article? (It now records flavor variations, but that's all.) 155.213.224.59 (talk) 15:34, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Lift does not have a similar taste to Mellow Yellow/Mountain Dew edit

Mellow Yellow and Lift are nothing alike (Lift is a Lemon Squash Drink!) Mellow Yellow is more of a Lime drink!

Lift is a Rival to Pepsico's Solo not Mountain Dew

Mellow Yellow was withdrawn supposedly because of poor sale's caused by not enough Advertising or Wide Enough Distribution 60.225.227.203 (talk) 15:08, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
