What is it for? edit

Unless I'm blind, I don't think it says in this article WHY medetomidine is actually used? i.e. what is the point of using it during anaesthesia. Bilz0r (talk) 05:49, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, it has sedative, analgesic, and muscle relaxant effects. I believe it is used mostly for anesthetic sparing (to allow reduction in the dose of opioids and inhalant anesthetics). It does say so in the second paragraph of the "Uses" section, although somewhat indirectly. The article's single reference is to an excellent 2003 review, which could be used to expand the content considerably if you're up to it :) Fvasconcellos (t·c) 13:14, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The information I am collecting on medetomidine comes from the Novartis website as well as the anesthesia section of the National Veterinary Medical Series Small Animal Surgery book. I was just saving information as I entered additional information onto the page.

Please Note: the bot website did not use the word adrenergic at all, it only indicated that medetomidine is a alpha-two agonist.
