Marvin Gaye edit

Well written article, but wasn't it also sung by Marvin Gaye? 80.47.140.19 10:19, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

no, however that is a common mistake people make

Otis Redding edit

How could Otis Redding have covered the song when he died 5 years before it was written? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.68.237.228 (talk) 17:44, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've removed it, given the lack of attribution. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 22:22, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Amy Winehouse edit

i think Amy's song is unrelated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.45.199.106 (talk) 22:54, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I wanted to add the same. A search on allmusic.com indicates that she is the composer, and if you listen to the song, it's definitely not the same. 66.248.222.34 (talk) 01:05, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I came here actually wondering if it was a direct reference. Anyone certain? 12.162.122.5 (talk) 18:53, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I removed her name from the list of artists who "covered" this song. There is no citation. The lyrics to her "Me and Mr. Jones" song are unrelated. Her song *title* is very likely a reference to this song, but again, without a citation ... *shrug*. Tkech (talk) 00:41, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merging/Separation of song articles edit

Please note : There is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs/coverversions with the purpose of trying to establish a standard rule for merge/separate different versions of the same song. Please make known your feelings on the matter. Regards. --Richhoncho (talk) 23:13, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Michael Bublé edit

Um. Why is there this huge section about Michael Bublé covering this song? His section is bigger than the info about the #1 original. I can't even say that Bublé's version rated better than the other covers, since it didn't chart in the US, and made only #68 in Switzerland. Whereas an "other cover" by the Dramatics charted at "#47 on the pop charts and #4 on the R&B charts" in 1974. Does that make the Dramatics more significant than Bublé? I guess I'm wanting to know why Bublé's version rates more attention than the other covers? Or is the extra info just from a well-intentioned Bublé fan? Tkech (talk) 00:50, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

It's not that there's too much about Bublé, it's that there's not enough about the Paul version and nothing about the Dramatics! There's also nothing about the song - other than it's about an extramarital affair. Is it an article about a song or is it a discography of a song? Cheers. Apologies for my whinge, you didn't deserve it! --Richhoncho (talk) 10:58, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

It's not just that the Billy Paul section is too small - the Michael Bublé version is almost totally inconsequential and doesn't deserve a section of its own — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.79.204.22 (talk) 21:08, 8 February 2013 (UTC) I came here to make the same comment. Doesn't the Micheal Buble segment amount to advertisement?--173.52.107.205 (talk) 17:49, 24 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

So now what? do we have to wait for some wikipedia-accredited person to take out that Michael Bublé fanboy prose/promotional paragraph, or what? I think it's quite justified to move Bublé to a simple mention in the "covers" section... 178.199.229.83 (talk) 21:41, 2 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Second verse edit

Don't know if we can find anything to use as a reference to support this, but I've noticed some radio stations tend to emit out the second verse of the Billy Paul version (we gotta be extra careful, etc) whenever the song is played. I'm thinking of one station in particular that does this. I presume it's to shorten the track for radio, but don't know. Could be worth a mention somewhere in the article if we can source it from somewhere. This is Paul (talk) 13:58, 25 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
