Name change edit

I have attached a {{fact}} request to Max and his brother selecting the name: according to the ODNB the name was selected by the parents.--Old Moonraker (talk) 06:20, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The following from an anon post on the article page, removed as original research:
(My parents were the Raynes's best friends for many years, and I and my brothers grew up with their three children. I heard the story about the name from Max himself and, most recently, from his daughter, Susan Rayner.)

P.S. The name may have been officially selected by the parents, but that does not tell us where it came from, who suggested it. The two accounts are not incompatible. -- Purdy MerritPurdy Merrit (talk) 18:41, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I POSTED THE ABOVE and did not intend it to be anonymous. As I remember it, Max and his brother (I think) were on a London bus when they passed RAYNE'S shoe shop and liked the name. Max told me that story decades ago, and Susan also told me the same thing. Maybe they suggested the name to their parents, and maybe only adults could, officially, select a new name. -- Purdy MerritPurdy Merrit (talk) 18:41, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
